Hi! I am in the process of preparing the civil certificates to submit to NVC and would need your help on the request for Police Certificate. When I got married 2 years ago, I kept my maiden surname until a few months ago when I decided to use my husband's last name. I am a permanent resident of the Philippines but stayed around 2 years in Italy and only came back a year ago. I am now applying for a police certificate in Italy and I am thinking of applying for that police certificate using my maiden surname since I was using that surname all the time I was there. Am I doing the right thing? Will I have problems with the NVC or US Embassy?

Grazie! Thanks! Salamat!

hey ruth,

if i understand correctly, Yes it sounds good. the italian will need to use the name u used while there. ur maiden name!the NVC will have ur maiden name on the forms ur hubby submits and will have copies of ur passport(s) coz u have to send those also(if i understnad the process correctly). It is normal to take ur hubbys' last name, so all the pieces of the puzzle should fit together jus fine.if i am incorrect bout any of this i'm sure someone here will point it out. none of us like/need misinformation.my wife will be getting her police clearance from HongKong so it will also have her maiden name on it.good luck
