Our I-130 just got approved! We are extremely happy but anxious to know what's next in the process and how long it's going to take now for the whole process to finish...however our I-129F is still not approved and we want to know if we even need it now and should we just cancel the application? any advice in this regard would be appreciated.

You bring up a good point. The real difference in processing time seems to be at the NVC level before they get to the Embassy. The I-129f flies through there in a week or so (usually). The I-130 takes a few months. From timelines I've been looking at, it seems like about 4 months right now.

So, if you stick with the I-130, you will probably have it sent to the Embassy in or around October. Then it will be processed there which will add another 8 weeks or so (general estimate, not guaranteed).

I think you should probably just wait & see what happens with your K3. If it gets approved soon then you will definitely have it completed before the I-130.

Don't forget that there are "shortcuts" on this site to help you cut down the time your I-130 is at the NVC. Check out Aussiewench's signature, she has the link to the shortcuts in there!

As Rebster suggested just wait and see what happens to your K-3. That's what we did. And even though my I-130 was approved before the I-129F (which we sent really late), it was the K-3 application that got an interview first. My CR-1 application is still waiting for case complete. Have a look at my signature below.

Congratulations, kiny. We'll all be watching, because you submitted the I-130 and I-129f roughly a month apart. Will your I-129f be approved a month after your I-130? The other interesting thing is that you applied early enough to avoid the IMBRA mess. For those of us caught in the net, we'll be curious about how much longer our approvals take.

Congratulations! Don't cancel I-129F yet. You will have clear idea after 2-3 months whether keeping I-129F will be useful or not.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview
