My wife who is a USC has her mom visiting us for 6 months on a B2 visa. While she's been here we've filed a I-130 for her mom. We would like to extend her mom's B2 another six months but with the pending I-130 for her mom we're afraid of any conflicts with the two applications. Her intention is to leave at the end of the B2 visa and go back to her country to complete the I-130 process. Does anyone see any problems if we try and extend her B2 (I-539) at this time?

My wife's cousin (now a USC) just did the same for her mom.... don't know if there is/was problems, but that is exactly what they did......

YMMV

I think it's worth trying to file for an extension even though they're not that easy to get. Just make sure she goes back home before the date on her passport expires even if her petition for her extension is still pending because it might bring her problems come interview time.
