I'm married to a man from Nigeria......I'm just curious who of you are still together (those of you who are married to a Nigerian that is) and how long has it been? I'm specifically wanting to know how its all worked out after your SO has come to the states?? I have seen several case where Nigerian males have come to live in the US with a spouse and they left as soon as they were able. Not wanting to judge just want a poll to see how many are successfully still married to a Nigerian. You only hear of the bad cases. Thanks for your help with this.

Have you asked this yet in the Sub-Saharan forum? They might have a better answer as there aren't really too many Nigerian spouses here in the MENA forum. I hope it all works out for you, and that you aren't asking because things might be going downhill. But if they are, well, best of luck on making things work. I will say that Lagos is known for being one of the very highest fraud USEM and it got that recognition because of the fraudulent relationships that do come out of there. So, there is a reason - but that isn't to say that there are truly valid love affairs that make it out of Nigeria, but they definitely are few and far between.

Good luck!

One other thing, just make sure to document your entire relationship...your hubby is going to need all the proof he can get of a valid relationship. His interview at Lagos will be hell on wheels as I have never ever heard one to be easy. His family will most likely get home visits from investigators as well. Tell him to prepare himself for whatever comes and get ready to board the rollercoaster.

Thanks for the info....I wasn't sure where to post the question?? Anyway, my eyes are wide open and I do realize that Nigeria is known for all sorts of scams. Things aren't really going south for me, but I've read soooo much bad stuff I was looking to balance it out with maybe a few good stories?? I also am aware he will need lots of documentation for his interview.....I believe I am well prepared. I think I killed at least a few trees with all the emails, Im chats, phone records, documentation of communication with his family, and the over 200 pics I have printed off (I've gone there 3 times to visit he and his family and maybe going again in march).

Sorry guess I didn't realize how to post the question?? Or where to post it for that matter.......I tend to hang out in the mena forum more than others and still kind of new to vj so my apologies if I irritated anyone with my question...........

Hello babynursetobe,

I wish you the best of luck on your journey and you have come to the right place. There are alot of threads in this forum that could probably answer all of your questions and concerns about USC/Nigerian SO. If you have anyother questions, please let us know and I am positive that everyone would give you some good feedback.

My husband and I have been married for 2 yrs and our K1 visa was a very short journey, but my hubby had his interview in The Netherlands because he was going to school there, so I could not give you alot of info regarding having an interview in Lagos.

When my hubby arrived in the States...there were many cultural differences and to this day there is stilll some differences. For example, my husband had his 3 school backpacks next to his night stand (near bathroom door) and I was getting tired of seeing them and moving them...so I put them in our closet for now, since we are on winterbreak. When he got home, he noticed the backpacks in the closet...and questioned me about it. He told me that in Nigeria a husband could "fire" his wife for moving his stuff. Is this true? I really do not know and did not want to make it a huge deal, so i said "Sweetheart, I was just trying to clean up alittle and since school is out right now, I thought you would not mind." He was understanding and did not say anything after that. I avoid conflicts at any expense and I respect what he thinks and feels...and he reciprocates from that.

To Blessed to be stressed:) I realize that all things have a purpose and a time.....have faith and the Lord Almighty will provide... when the time is right, he NEVER fails!

Thanks for the reply. I am learning that I have to sacrifice alot being married to Ademola. Avoiding conflicts seems to be a common thing that one must do. The whole reason for the post is really just to learn as much as I can about what to expect. Things are wonderful between us when we are together, but then sometimes the seperation basically sucks and causes conflicts. I've just heard soooo many bad things about Nigeria and I want/need to hear some good things.

Check with Zee. She started a Yahoo group, not sure if its what you're looking for, it might help some. There're too many old members who no longer come to the board, so its hard to tell who is married and who is not. I'm taking the position that yours will work out well so no worries. Marriage is marriage and there are hurdles, Nigerian or otherwise, so we'll pray for a healthy marriage for you. Take care

The longer it takes to introduce yourself the less you've actually accomplished

Wow, I meant no disrespect to your country or the people from it. I am married to a Nigeria myself and love him and his family very much. I think you totally misunderstood what the meaning of the orignal post was so I am sorry if I offended you or anyone else for the matter that was NEVER my intention. I am trying to learn as much as I can.
