Hey everyone,

I'm confused about the I-134 and whether or not it needs to be notorized. Many of the threads on the I-134 seem to be from '06 and '07 so it's hard to know if that information still applies. Here is the quote from the USCIS I-134 instructions that were updated on 10/30/2008:

Under heading "Execution of Affidavit"

"You must sign Form I-134 in your full name. (Note: Signing Form I-134 is under penalty of perjury under U.S. law). For this reason, it is not necessary to sign Form I-134 before a notary, nor to have your signature notarized after you sign it."

Clearly the instructions seem to state that it's no longer necessary to notorize the form, but I wonder if the consulates have all heard this. Any thoughts?

There have been threads concerning the 1-134 recently:

There doesn't appear to be anywhere on the form for the notary and the instructions also state that it's no longer necessary to notarize it. Not sure about the consulates.

Since there is no place on the form for the notary to do their trip anymore like the old ones I'd assume there is no need.

The questionable thing is the "cover page" for the I-134 still says it has to be notarized!~

Where to File :

To file this form, it needs to be sworn to or affirmed by a USCIS Officer at any USCIS Office, by a notary public, or other official authorized to administer oaths for general purposes. If the sponsor is outside the United States, the affidavit must be sworn to or affirmed by a USCIS Officer or Consular Officer at any U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

Hi, CHuckH. Recently I started that thread about I-134, Version 2008 and my fiance understood this is really not needed for that form to be notarized, but yesterday we agreed that he will let it notarized to be sure. Just to avoid problems in my actual interview on January, because of the instruction from the USCIS website, and it doesn`t co-relate the idea if needs to be notarized or not. You can have it notarized too if you want just to be secure. Good luck and have a Blessed New Year to you and your love ones.

We just went through the interview on December 17, and they definitely looked for/checked the notary. We were right on the bubble, however, since I had the paperwork notarized the day after our NOA-2 came through, so it was before the new version came out (I think).

Good luck!
