than philippine islands(PI)..

PI, ( PHILIPPINE ISLAND) is just a slang abbreviation for Philippines way back from American Colonization and also during the time the Philippines has US Naval base

These days "RP" ( Republic of the Philippines) is more commonly used. They say it's more politically correct.

But now a days, PH is use also and its acceptable.

But that reminds me of a time at work I went to a business with a purchase order to pickup supplies. The business's have a list of people who are authorized to use purchase orders. The girl at the counter couldnt find my name on the list so she ask me if I have another name. I told her no this is the only one I have every had.

I thought it's short for a pinoy bad word...hahaha. We pinoys are not very particular on how our country is called. We are not particular at all when it comes to us being pinoys...unlike other race/culture. I think because we're so Westernized-- Westernized beyond repair! that we no longer care. (for some they still do though).

Not at all. The ones that I've seen are: PH, PI or RP.

RP is okay. It stands for Republika ng Pilipinas. PI is not so bad, but it makes you think that you are being treated as a colony, not a real country. When you say Republic, then you know you are independent and that is something to take pride in. Of course when you go on the internet, you see PH sometimes added to the URL showing that the address is from the Philippines. I think sometimes when people say PI they are romanticizing the island life and that is not so bad either.
