Oh wow. Well thank goodness it seems to be a cultural thing and not a personality thing. :-) That helps me understand him better.

No matter how prepared he thinks he is, he will certainly experience culture shock. Having an idea what to expect in his new country and actually experiencing it first hand are two different things. Just be patient with him and know that it may take 6 moths, 1 year or even longer for him to completely adjust. It all depends on the man and how well he adapts to change. I wish you both all the best in your new life together.

Life is so strange but it sure keeps you on your toes!!!

I second the Magic Jack comment. We are visiting Morocco now and we set up the mj, so now they will be able to talk when we go back to the US, and of course while we are here we can communicate with our friends and family in the US.

Mine misses being able to walk around at night with friends, all the social stuff he is used to. Look into if there are any groups of Moroccans in your area, or any associations or meetups related to his interests. Of course he's not a child, so your not setting up playdates or anything... Think of things he can do to occupy his time before he creates his own social network, has a job, etc.

Actually, I'm hoping I will hear something that will help me help my SO...he gets a bit bored, I'm afraid I am usually content to occupy myself at home and my activities are mostly solitary. One of the early things he should do besides work on AOS is get his drivers license so he feels independant and does not have to depend on you to get around all the time.

What is Magic Jack? I haven't heard of this.

Best thing ever. They need a computer (overseas) to have it installed and you can call them like its a local number and they can call you as well. It's the bomb. We sent one to Egypt and we can talk w/ them all the time. They can call us at home, on our mobile phones, etc all for 40 bucks a year. :D

I checked into the MJ thing. Would be good for my hubby to call me (he is in Canada), but unfortunately according to the terms of service, we can't send one to his parents in Iran (embargo). That's too bad as that would have been great to have free calls to/from his parents.

In international commerce and politics, an embargo is the prohibition of commerce (division of trade) and trade with a certain country, in order to isolate it and to put its government into a difficult internal situation, given that the effects of the embargo are often able to make its economy suffer from the initiative. from wiki :D
