Okay, called the Deputy High Commission, and the lady was incredibly helpful. She gave me an email address to contact and it was looking really hopeful...

And then I got this response:

Thank you for your mail.

For conducting any local searches, you will first need to contact the Nationality & Consular Registration Section (N&CRS) of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, public enquiry line, 020 7008 0186, which is open 10am - 12pm Monday to Thursday. They will explain in detail the procedure for tracing/obtaining your birth certificate. You will be required to complete a form giving all details and pay a fee of £ 37. N&CRS will then request us to conduct a search for the document and only then can we take things forward with the hospital/Bangalore municipal corporation, as the case may be. However, please be aware that this may not be possible within the time frame given by you.

So I check this number...and...it's the births/deaths line who basically told me to ####### off. I'll try calling them again but it seems like I'm going in circles now and this is all moot. I think I might just...aaargh .

All that after a night riddled with waking up suddenly from various nightmares about my family members finding me...joy.

Hey little Sunshine girl...Don't be sad. It's more names and numbers to add to your list of efforts.

Just see if you can follow through with that form and fee thing. It sounds a little more like an actual procedure. Even if you don't get it before the interview, if it works then you will get a birth certificate for things in the future (AOS/Removing Conditions).

dont worry too too much. like ms. nich said, that list that documents your efforts to obtain it will be a good piece of evidence. you have as much information as you can have in your situation. it will not stop you from getting your visa.

i would keep at the n&crs. why did they tell you to ####### off if they offer a service that might help you? call (again) the department that oversees the n&crs tell them that you ran into a deadend. someone must be able to and is charged with getting this sort of information. and i would keep calling because you may get a different answer. keep at it

That's true, I know it will come in handy...but you'll see why I'm a tad worried...

Well, the birth/death line lady was a lot more helpful this time around, especially when I mentioned who had corresponded with me. That's the good news.

The bad news? It's going to cost me £121 for an application, and even then, it's not guaranteed that they'll find anything and the price is non-refundable. Do you think that the US embassy will make me wait to get it? I'm really scared because it says that it sometimes takes as long as 18 months to track it down. This country just really wants to bleed me dry...it's another fee to add on top of everything else. It's just a pain that the only thing I seem to have done wrong is being born in another country.

Update: Talked to Knight. He suggested that I shouldn't bother at the moment, and then if the visa officer brings it up, I can always produce the application form and the email.

miss g, I wish somehow there was a way to trade interview dates...I would be the first one to trade with you! We wanted an April 21st date ideally, it would be perfect! But right now we are stuck with March 30! We are trying for my fiance to not reschedule it and work around everything else so he can make it to the interview. By this Thursday we will know for sure whether to reschedule or stick with March 30. I really wish there was a way to trade dates for us, you would love March 30, and April 21st is IDEAL for us! :wacko: :devil:

I will let you know on Thursday if we are rescheduling or keeping March 30...hopefully then you can call on the same day and ask for an earlier date (ask for March 30)!

I was wondering what everyone's packet 4 actually had in it because Nic got a letter with his interview date and time in the mail. It said there is suppose to be an IV-19 enclosed but there was only the letter. Can anyone help me? Congrats on the approvals!

Hello everyone,

We did our medical today and all went very well. Now we are just waiting for one more document then we sent out the checklist. And after that we just hope we get an interview soon. Of what we have been reading it takes 4-6 weeks to get an interview day, is it right?

I forgot to ask about the email. I have emailed the embassy in UK it said I should be receiving an email from them with in 3-4 days. Does this mean I have to wait longer? It's been 5 days and I have not heard from them. Does anyone know how long it usually takes for them to send a reply back?

Embassy has been replying in 6-7 days not the 3-4 they say. I've been sending emails regularly over the last four weeks.
