Congrats! SSS8380 is in AP because her fiance is not a UK citizen and a student in the UK, standard procedure for the London embassy for those who are not foreign students in the UK.

Sorry, I need to correct my above post^

...standard procedure for the London embassy for those who are not foreign students in the UK.

And it shouldn't take long SSS8380, the AP in London takes 3-4 weeks on average. Our case is different because my fiance was on AR first and now he is on AP.

Good review

So now they have started numbering the K-1's as I-000, it used to be a 4-digit # starting with 5XXXX. Interesting. Did you get a young male American CO, or was it a blond-haired woman? Just wondering if the same people are still the interviewers from when my fiance interviewed...

Was a youngish guy called John Connolly for the first part then the CO interview was a lovely blonde lady.

and yeah, all Immigrant visas begin with an I, NON-IMMIGRANT an N and i think there were E's too..

Hi All,

We got the visa in hand this week and my fiancee describes her experience (in her words) below:

********************************************************************************

*************************

Finally got my K1 visa in hand yesterday. I am not a UK citizen - I have been in London for a year on a work permit. So here is a short summary of my experience so that all of you in a similar situation can relax... well, at least a bit.

The initial getting-into-London-embassy part went off without a hitch thanks to tips from VJ-ers. After a really long wait, got to the first document collection window. All the lady at that window wanted was my passport, interview letter, police certificates, birth certificate and support documentation (I-134, bank statements and last year's tax return all from my fiance). She looked through my passport at all my visas. I had a previous US business visitor (B1) visa, a US student (F1) visa and a current UK work permit visa. She paused at the F1 and asked me if I am a student in the US. I said I was before, but graduated in 2007. She bookmarked it anyway. She also checked to make sure that my UK work permit visa is valid. Since I had submitted photocopies of some documents, she said I will get my originals back after the interview, and gave me my X-Ray from the medical.

After another really long wait, I got called to the interview window. The friendly american visa officer asked me just four questions:

1. Where did you meet your fiance? (I said we went to college together years ago.)

2. Is that the <US University Name on my F1 visa>? (I said no, before that. During undergrad in India.)

3. What does your fiance do? (I told him the job title.)

4. Are you still a student at <US University Name on my F1 visa>? (I repeated my earlier answer to the lady: Was, but graduated in 2007.)

And that was it, no further questions, no more proof shown, though I had the usual tons of documentation - photos, boarding passes, emails, phone records etc - with me. On the 9th day after the interview, I got my passport with visa and the package for the immigration officer in courier. And they have stamped "Cancelled without prejudice" on my previous US visas.

For those who end up in AP/AR after OCT 01, 09 (95% of Londoners do not, so this doesn't apply to many of you)

SSS8380 brought this to my attention:

YOU CAN CHECK THE STATUS OF YOUR AP/AR DIRECTLY ON THE EMBASSY'S WEBSITE!!! :)

Hi SSS8380

were you handed the blue slip saying that you are in AP or you found out later on ?

hey irak, yes my fiance was told by the interviewer that he will be put under AP and then he gave him that blue slip. Also, they did not take his passport so they said once the processing is over they will let him know so he can send that in for the visa.

The Batch number they refer to on the link above is it the case number or a different number

We are all here to help each other, so no need to be sorry for asking questions! :)

Quoted from the site:

Some cases require additional administrative processing. If you attended a visa interview on or after October 1, 2009 and you received a 221(g) "Administrative Processing" handout at the interview, you can check the status of your case on-line. The case status report will be updated periodically.

This web-page is under the "non-immigrant" visa section. Because K-1 visas are dual intent, they are immigrant visas but are issued in the Non-Immigrant Visa Unit. So this would apply to K-1 visas and most probably all other visas as well since the statement above does not differentiate between IV and NIV.

With regards to the batch #: (quoted from the site)

In order to check the status of your application, you will require your Batch No (found on the 221(g) leaflet handed to you at the visa interview.

So the batch # is on the 221(G) paper given at the time of visa interview for those that are put under AP. I am assuming it is the case # as the #s do look like case #s, but I could be wrong.
