That, and some place up there has good fudge (an island or something?)

mackinac island!! one of my favorite places on earth. there is something about the aroma of fudge, waffle cones and horsepoop wafting through the 'downtown' area that makes you love it there.

and as for cold winters, i live in vermont (which i LOVE) and im really looking forward to a real winter with jamie. someone to help me shovel!!

Hey Mackinac Island is where we are getting married..in the Little Stone Church (that's it's name) & we're gonna get a horse & buggy ride after the ceremony! We visited the island last year & I loved it. I thought it would be perfect for a wedding.

Urgh yeh & the winters! Apparently the snow has only just melted. I don't know how I'll cope with 5/6 months of continuous heavy snow. I'm sure I'll get used to it. I'm already looking forward to Christmas! saddo!! ha ha

We are nowhere near the UP. We are South West MI between Kalamazoo and Benton Harbor. I guess about an hour and a 1/4 south of Grand Rapids.

Oh oh we are about an hour from you :) Not far at all!

We drove past Michigan City last night. Caught the bus from there to the airport a couple of times.

Welcome to the USA, finally you are home!!!

Visa Journey completed, but we are still here to provide support! :)

Hi all

Firstly BOO BIG THUMBS DOWN to the stupid and sometimes mean CO's at London.

Secondly

wait for it

I'm home in Michigan!!!! Haven't updated timeline yet re: POE will soon, was not the easiest time.

All that matters is I am home with my honey, we went and picked up the marriage certificate today. So we are all set for next Friday.

Yay...congratulations.

Which part of Michigan are you at? I'll be going there too! Only my fiance has a house up in the Upper Peninsula, so we'll be going there for the summer. We'll probably move to Grand Rapids after that so I can find work there. :star:

What do they call those people? Uppers? No, Yoopers (from "U" "P" ers). And THEN, you're going to move (below the bridge) and become a TROLL!! LOL! It's the best thing I know about Michigan. That, and some place up there has good fudge (an island or something?) Summer will be a great time to fall in love with it up there...not so sure about winters. :D

-H

I didn't know about the troll part!

I'm actually from South Bend, IN....but I think Michigan City is the closest office. Not sure.

Not yet...my fiance will go to the medical with his UK Resident ID card and his driver's license and a copy of his passport (it says in the Medical PDF on the embassy's website that you must take passport OR another form of ID, but he is taking all he can). The Royal Mail tracking system saying "It is on it's way" so he should receive it tomorrow before 1 PM for sure.

I have never visited Mackinac Island ... but I will put it on my list of places to visit - it can't be far from Iowa!

I phoned the Dept of State this morning .. I was told by a sweet lady that they haven't "qualified" my docs - so no interview yet. The docs arrived in London on the Thursday 26th of March and were showing on the system when I started stalking the visa staff on Tuesday 7th of April ...

OMG ... they've had the paperwork for four WHOLE WEEKS! I thought I would have heard something by now .. what's the longest anyone's waited to hear about their interview date?? I guess I'll just phone again tomorrow ... <> BIG SIGHS <>

Oh Oh .. before I forget, good luck to Stinkerpotsam, Marty J, prima and jay and Helen&Dougie for tomorrow ... I have everything crossed for you all!!

Have a good night everyone ...

remain calm. that was possibly my best weapon in this process. the more energy you spend worrying, the more you open yourself up to errors.

seriously, things will be fine.

Thanks you for that .... and I am trying ....

I am so organised for this interview mr and mrs. The documents are copied, compiled and in their folder - ready to go to London with me. I am usually such a patient, laid back kind of person, but this whole process is really getting to me. I want to get the hotel, flights and medical all booked, but I'm having to sit on my hands and wait ...

AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!! Oh my, I feel better after that ...

I know everyone else is in the same boat, I know we're all playing the waiting game together .... I'm sorry for having a moan .... :bonk:

Thanks for all the good wishes guys!

My taxi will be here for the airport in a few hours, then it's just a quick flight, train ride, tube journey and sprint to the embassy. I've "walked" my route on Google Streetview so I know where I'm going, checked in for my flight, double-quadruple-triple checked the contents of my folder, shaved, picked out my clothes, changed my money to English money, removed all electronic items from my coat, got a book to read, and I'm trying not to be nervous.

I keep telling myself whatever happens we'll get through it; I guess tomorrow we'll find out how complicated life is going to get!
