can anyone help me with this... is the US tax year(like the UK) April to April or is it 1st Jan to 31st Dec???

Can someone please help...

1st Jan to 31st Dec, time goes by awfully quick when it comes due to do taxes again, what a way to start off a new year. Have to close my books, soon.

Forms have to be posted by April 15th to avoid a penalty, not too bad if you have wages and use the standard deduction, about ten minutes. A royal pain if you have a business with inventory, and thousands of receipts and invoices.

Unless they owe you money.

Doesn't the IRS at http://www.irs.gov/index.html have a publication on that? They only have about eleven thousand pages of publications, rules, and regulations not even the IRS knows about and they love using sentences with three or more negatives in them. Twists your brain so bad, have to soak it in a bucket of ice water.

Can also try:

"Telephone Assistance for Individuals:

Toll-Free, 1-800-829-1040

Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. your local time (Alaska & Hawaii follow Pacific Time)."

Or ask these questions from a tax attorney. If you pay an organization to do your taxes, most agree to accept the liability, and the more you can do yourself, all neatly organized, the lower the fee will be. Really a big pain in the ###.

In the last few years the IRS has seemed to be able to loose our check when the return is large. Hum! Then we don't get a replacement check until June so the good Ol' gov gets to use our money a few extra months for free. We have since stopped that and will either get back very little or will own. Of course if I don't have the money to them by April 15th they will penalize the hell out of me  It just doesn't seem right
