What is the average waiting time in New York for I-751 (petition to remove conditions on residence) to be approved?

What happens once application is approved: are they sending approval letter or 10-year green card straight away?

How long does it take for 10-year green card to be mailed?

Hi j25,

Nice to meet another fellow New York Stater on VJ! In answer to your questions:

First of all, if you are in New York State, you will be filing at the Vermont Service Center (VSC), which at this point, the average waiting time is approximately 11 months from application to approval.

For more information about the unofficial approval times from other fellow VJers, you can read the following "VSC I-751 Status List": http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...&start=1120

As well, for more information on the USCIS' Official Processing Times for the VSC:

https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processTimesDis...e=serviceCenter

From what I've read (though someone else can clarify me on this), once the application is approved, the 10yr Green Card should arrive in the mail 1-2 weeks later. Meanwhile, you can also check your online case status on the USCIS website too.

Also bear in mind, while you are waiting, you may or may not be called for an interview, depending on "the luck of the draw" and the specifics of your case/situation; and you may or may not have an RFE request for evidence if they believe that you need more evidence for your I-751 case. So be prepared, just in case these situations happen that may/may not cause a delay too.

Hope this helps. Good luck with the rest of your immigration journey too.

Ant (Still waiting at the VSC...)

Thank you and good luck to you, too!

I appreciate your input very much. Thank you for detail information. Are you saying that average waiting time in NY is 11 months?! + 2 weeks for card to arrive

That is almost 1 year?!!

Waiting time is the same as Vermont and many other states, as it is processed at the Vermont Service Center...

As far as I know waiting time depends on District Office and it is different from state to state and city to city.

Hi J25,

No problem, glad to be able to help there. Yes, 11 months+...it's almost a year....Lol...I honestly don't count on the VSC moving any faster anytime soon either, as there has been "backlog" there for quite some time...

In fact, I'll probably be expecting a Baby before I get my 10yr Green Card, even though I applied for the I-751 first...lol...(see my signature below)...

Meanwhile, while you are waiting, for your I-751 to be approved, you will be given an "NOA Extension letter", which extends your 2yr Green Card for another 1 year while your case is pending. Simply carry your expired 2yr Green Card, along with this extension letter, and you should be ok for employment and travel purposes, if/when you need to prove legal US residency status there.

Yes, the distict offices "eventually" approves the cases, as it will indicate such on one's approval letter. However, currently all I-751 applications are sent to the national offices (Vermont or California, depending on which part of the country you are in), where it just "sits" on god-knows-whos desk and then gets transferred to the district office, and finally eventually approved. Makes no sense really, and is somewhat inefficient. Oh well, that's just the way governments are, I guess...

Funny, I posted a VJ topic about that "local district office" idea recently, which you can read here too: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...c=165381&hl=

Hope this helps too. Good luck on your immigration journey.

I was under impression that waiting time depends on District Office and it is different from state to state and city to city.
