Dear USCIS,

You fingerprinted me when I came here as a tourist. Several times.

You fingerprinted me when I got my K-1.

You fingerprinted me when I came here as a K-1.

I was about to write that "at least these were free", but of course they were not. I paid for it all, one way or another.

Then I applied for AOS. Oh boy. All fingers, palm prints, fortunately you stopped short of [censored] prints.

Now, two years later, still happily married, I applied for removal of conditions. And you want all my prints again? Hey, I understand. Unemployment is high, those nice folks who take my prints need their jobs, too. But maybe I could just send you a check and let them drink their coffee in peace?

You know, an average chimpanzee would realize by now that MY FINGERPRINTS ARE STILL THE SAME!

Just checking to make sure someone didn't 'take you out" and take your identity.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

Amen to that LOL!!!! I said the same exact thing, I never understood why all the fingerprint taking, took them when I went for my embassy interview, POE and then biometrics, and I also heard if the AOS isnt completed and the original biometrics taken expired, they would make you re-do the prints AGAIN !!!!

Hi Brtlmj and Everyone,

.... ...I totally agree with you here about the fingerprinting processes (even though I didn't go through the K1 process). You would think that they would have the common sense to think that "my fingerprints are still the same!", and not waste resources re-doing such a repeatitive process....

Gee what a way to make someone feel "welcomed" into a country, by treating them like a "criminal" who needs to have their fingerprints taken every year so that they can have their name "cleared"....

You would also think that they would have a "government database" of all the information, and have the common sense to look up that information for themselves, especially when we are paying them such to do the job and they're taking so long to do it...

Oh and what's the deal with this I-751 removal conditions process anyways? I'm sure you and everyone else here can think of better things to do with their money and their time than to "prove" to the government about what a "genuine marriage" really is about...

Sigh, that's government folks for you. Oh well. We'll all just have to "grin and bear it", I suppose...

yep - fingerprints are only valid for 15 months and if they expire while you are waiting for AOS then you need to get them redone- I had to do them twice for AOS, and twice for renewal of EADs. Of course, now I had to redo them for removal of conditions. My understanding is that when they expire in 15 months they are deleted from the database so need to be re-entered. That sounds extremely inefficient to me if it is indeed true as you would think they would want to keep a central repository of all immigrant fingerprints. I know that fingerprints can be altered and changed with surgery and stuff but come on now, is it likely I would change my fingerprints to someone who is going through the immigration process if I wanted to scam anybody? It really does seem to be redundant.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

The reason for the re fingerprinting is to verify they are still dealing with the same perons. It has to do with identity theft and its a positive way for them to show that each step in the process was the same person. I work in Law Enforcement and each time we make an arrest we fingerprint the person again, even if we have there prints on file 50 or more times from past dealings. These prints are submitted up via computer. Sometimes we fingerprint someone and we get a report back in telling us this person has been fingerprinted before but under a different name. Then we investigate further. That is the reason for the fingerprinting and its required by the Homeland Security Act. Basicly its the best way they have of knowing they are dealing with the same person from start to close.

Thanks everybody... I really had to vent :)

Now, let me address the "they need to know if they are dealing with the same person" issue. If this was the case, they would just take one index finger print. This would be enough. And they would take this one print at the time of an interview. The only reason I can think of for taking ALL prints is trying to match them with some crime scene evidence database.

And of course, if they were really concerned with identity theft, they would not be sending green cards by mail!

It might also have something to do with the 80 bucks. It took my wife about 5 minutes to get the bio. If you do the math that is about 960 bucks an hour for each machine. If you add that times all of the offices doing bios it turns into quite a profit maker. That would also explain why they won't let police offices do the fingerprints. They don't want to share the money.
