YAY! Got the visa through dcf.. now what..?

I have a funny question probably no one will be able to answer...

Im thinking about taking a transatlantic cruise back to the states (honeymoon :). This will be my husbands first entrance to the states with his immigrant visa and sealed envelope. So, if we disembark the cruiseship in NY, what happens then? He goes through processing (what exactly gets done there too) in NY at the seaport? (Like they used to on Ellis island, lol). Chicago is our final destination.

Anyone know anything about this? Or at least, direct me to who I should ask... thanks!
