I am more a Thai mango guy myself and sure do wish it were possible. But, I suspect not. Agriculture control is pretty strict these days. :crying:

Good luck bringing fruit into the US.

For the most part, it's forbidden - you must declare any fruit and there are fruit sniffing dogs at virtually all POEs - they usually don't even let you bring fruit in that you got from the airline.

Posted (edited)

They are not allowed. All because of the Med. fruitfly back in the early 80's I believe. I would not even try to chance it...... MHO....

Fruits and Vegetables

Bringing fruits and vegetables can be complicated. For instance, consider the apple you bought in the foreign airport just before boarding and then did not eat? Whether or not CBP will allow the apple into the United States depends on where you got it and where you are going after you arrive in the United States. The same would be true for those magnificent Mediterranean tomatoes. Fresh fruits and vegetables can carry plant pests or diseases into the United States.

One good example of problems imported fruits and vegetables can cause is the Mediterranean fruit fly outbreak during the 1980s, The outbreak cost the state of California and the Federal Government approximately $100 million to get rid of this pest. The cause of the outbreak was one traveler who brought home one contaminated piece of fruit. It is best not to bring fresh fruits or vegetables into the United States. However, if you plan to, contact either CBP or check the Travelers Information section on the USDA-APHIS web site ( APHIS ) for a general approved list on items that need a permit

You may be allowed to bring mango-leather or tinned mangoes in, but don't bother trying to bring in fresh ones--customs officials will definitely "shop" them off you.

Hi!

I was travelling last March from the Philippines, though we did'nt inquire about our eagerness to bring fresh fruit, but we were handed a leaflet noting that we're not bringing any agricultural produce, so my fiancee, warned me not to bring any. Instead,I just brought dried mangoes, pineapple etc. But, try to ask in advance ,so you will not be hold for answering what is not allowed to bring.

Not allowed. It may even delay you at your POE. Your husband will just have to suffer like we do, hehe. I am craving for a green unripe mango right now and all I could find are mangoes from Mexico. They look like the apple mangoes that we have in the Philippines. Oh well, I will just have to wait until I visit the Philippines again.

You may bring as much fresh fruit into the US that you like as long as it is contained within your stomach. Any fresh fruit external to your person is usually handed over to the authorities and incinerated (ala "Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe" airport incinerator episode). The CPB has some excellent information on what you can and cannot bring into the US.

Good luck and Happy Holidays!
