hi vj's i just want to ask if the SSN and green card will be delivered in our house or should I apply for it? I'm on IR1 route..

Hi there,

You have the best kind of visa out there, congratulations! Your GC and SSN will arrive within 2-4 weeks at the address given during interview or if new one, then the one you give to the POE (any POE). If you see that your SSN is not arriving within 6 weeks, you should head to your local SS Office and take your passport and Birth certificate with you (original).

You should be getting your welcome letter FIRST. This should arrive within 2-3 weeks, to 5 weeks upon arrival. As soon as you get this welcome letter from USCIS, your name and info has been received from the POE (The yellow envelope that your submitted) and at that point, your GC arrives 2-8 days after, and go ahead and apply for your SSN upon your welcome notice if you do not receive it within 6 weeks.

My husband is here on CR1

he got his greencard over the weekend but no ss card in the mail

does a cr1 visa applicant need to phycially go to the SS office to apply for SS card

and

is it necessary to have the SS to apply for most jobs?

If you checked the box in the DS-230 he should get his SS card in the mail in a week or two. If it's been more than 2 weeks then you will probably have to file for it in person since many people don't receive their SS card automatically even if they checked the box.

Yes, anyone applying for employment will need at least a SS # for tax purposes.

You have to apply personally if you want to expedite your SSN or if you haven't indicated so in your DS-230.

You need to have an SSN for all jobs. Working without an SSN is working illegally in the US.

apply @ local social security office. stay away from welfare office. social service office is a fed bldg. other is state.

august 2004 I-129 filed (neb)

DEC 2004 Approved

interview: SEOUL

MArch 21st , 2005AR for special security clearance,washington

May 18th tranfer case from Seoul to Islammabad

June 21st security clearance done

June 28th online at the embassy in Islamabad

waiting for paper transfer and the good word

OCTOBER 14TH 2005 Interview Number 2: ISLAMABAD, PK

AR number 2 sent to DOS per Islamabad (2 cable request)

Nov 22 okd updated financial and etc proof accepted / embassy waiting for security cables

dec 20th one cable back waiting on 2nd

Jan 17th.. good word recieved. SECURITY CHECKS ALL CLEAR!!! DOS says embassy to contact him within two weeks!!!!!!

FEBRUARY 10th, 2006 VISA RECIEVED!!! They called him In via phone, stamped his passort and sent him on his way!!!

FEB 28th WELCOME HOME>>>POE CHICAGO did not even look at xray, few questions. one hour wait at Poe

march 10th marriage (nikkah at the islamic center)

aug 2006 AOS interview, cond 2 yr GC arrived september

June 2008 applied for removal of conditions on permant residency aka awaiting for 10 yr greencard

Dec 2008 10yr green card approved, no interview.
