It's just about time to go through the ritual of predicting the outcome of the tournament, and guessing who will play who in the knockout stages. There are many surprises on each WC! so it will be very interesting Here's my take.

I reckon that each of the groups will finish in this order:

Group A

Germany top, then Ecuador, Poland and Costa Rica

Group B

England top, then Sweden, Paraguay, and Trinidad & Tobago

Group C

Argentina top, then Netherlands, Serbia & Montenegro, and Ivory Coast

Group D

Portugal top, then Mexico, Iran, and Angola

Group E

Italy top, then USA, Czech Republic, and Ghana

Group F

Brazil top, then Croatia, Australia, and Japan

Group G

France top, then South Korea, Switzerland, and Togo

Group H

Spain top, then Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia

Then the last 16 knockout stages later.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Looks reasonable, but I think the U.S. is coming in third in their group.

I agree except for Group E - where I think Mexico will come out ahead of Portugal. I also think that if the Italians have a bad one, which is always possible with their temperaments, then the USA could surprise again.

Here's where I disagree:

Group A

Germany top, then Ecuador, Poland and Costa Rica

Poland will be second

Group C

Argentina top, then Netherlands, Serbia & Montenegro, and Ivory Coast

Serbia and Montenegro are the only team qualifying without any opposing goal and need to be watched. But with Argentina ande Netherlands in the same group, they probably don't have a chance.

Group E

Italy top, then USA, Czech Republic, and Ghana

This is a difficult group to play in because all four teams are good enough to qualify. I think Czech Republic will be first with Italy and USA almost tied for the second spot.

Group F

Brazil top, then Croatia, Australia, and Japan

Brazil will most likely be first in this group, but it's unclear who'll come in second; I don't think Croatia is as good as Australia and Japan, though.

Group G

France top, then South Korea, Switzerland, and Togo

Switzerland will be second.

Group H

Spain top, then Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia

Ukraine first, Spain second, with Tunesia having a 30% chance to advance into the 1/8-finals.

I agree w/ the czechs taking group E and then the US second. Italy has too many injuries I think to overcome.
