I think Slim is right that foreign women are more interested in finding true love and respect. As for American men not being the big draw they once were, I'd like to know who makes a better husband in the world.

I also believe that the younger women listed on so many web sites are really just looking for fun. If they can get a foreign guy to come to their country and spend money on them, why not? But, the attitudes and desires of the younger women is much different from the more traditional desires of women worldwide. Unfortunately, they are becoming more like the young American women. So, there is probably not a good chance that this particular scenario of Russian ladies coming to America is likely true.

Germans are pretty high on the list, and a lot of Russians speak German. In fact, many prefer Europeans because visits home are a lot more convenient.

Russian women, like women everywhere, come in all types. There's no way you can generalize their motivations by age or anything else. It's why guys need to be careful and take the time to establish a real relationship before jumping into anything. Writing a few letters, flying to Russia, and getting her signature on the G-325A forms is just inviting disaster.

but you can find that anywhere else in the world, why spend all your money on Russia, and/or paying to fly Russian women into the US?

Because pound-for-pound, and dollar-for-dollar, you get a higher standard of quality when you import them from Russia/FSU. Most of the guys who would go to a "social event" here in the U.S. and spend all that money to go "shopping" aren't able to "buy" the same level of quality in an American woman that they're going to get in a foreigner, especially a Russian/FSU.

Plain and simple, Russian women are the best "value" for guys who are paying. (Notice I took the politically correct quote out above?) Sure, there are some "cheaper" routes to go, but they're not going to be as "valuable" an investment, especially down the road.

So Slim, how much do you think I can get for my wife on the open market?

I just told Vika she was a good investment, and a higher quality import, according to my friend Slim. She went into hysterical fits of laughter, then reminded me that I wasn't paying (per the above) and she was NOT EVER for sale anyway  Then she wanted to know why mox thinks she is a Japanese car  Too funny!

So Slim, how much do you think I can get for my wife on the open market?

It all depends on where you're shopping. For instance, when you guys go to the beach down there in Florida, I'm sure she's worth a whole lot more than on the beach in Sochi. Sure, she's the same woman, but the market is different. She's still a high-value item in both locations, but when you park your Mercedes in a row full of Benzes, it's just another car. When your Mercedes is parked in a row of Nissans, well, the value hasn't necessarily changed, but the demand has increased significantly.

When American men "import" a wife/SO, they can do so from just about any country in the world. However, when they import from Russia/FSU they typically end up with a Mercedes to park among all the Nissans.

So what I think I hear you saying Slim is that they are the Nissan's of the bridal world.

If, by Nissans, you mean diesel-powered 4X4 P/U trucks - the kind Osama rides around in - because pound-for-pound they're the best vehicle you're going to get in your home country, then yeah, that's what I meant. What I was implying was you could import a Kia Bongo..... or even a Mitsubishi Pajero..... but the Nissan 4X4 is going to crawl over more mountain passes and hide in more caves than all the rest of them combined.

Oh you're paying, all right! You're going to be paying for the rest of (her) your life.

This being my second time around, I get what you are saying here Slim. But I hope you agree that you and I are both "paying" in the traditional sense, rather than your reference above to purchasing a bride. And to clarify, I have no problem at all with people meeting online or some other way, and don't think that is "paying" either. Although I think it simplifies things to meet in person by chance first, like we did, that is no prerequisite to a happy relationship. All of this offered IMHO :innocent:

I think alot of women (mercedes type) in Russia realize there are plenty of men in Russia who really can afford a nice 'car', and they are actually good drivers, whereas they have come to realize that many American men are only leasing or buying their mercedes on credit, and are horrible drivers to boot.

Do we really want to compare women to cars? Are we going to start saying, "I took her for a test ride, it was very smooth". I think a better measure is intrinsic value. Much more difficult to evaluate but based upon a happiness scale.

Are you happy with your Russian/FSU wife? Despite the difficulties between cultures, have you made a successful transition? Would you rather have your old wife back? Just a few questions to consider when evaluating what you have gotten this time around. And, if this is your only spouse, what were you expecting?

When we get done with all of the comparisons, the only thing that matters is, ARE YOU HAPPY!

Lawrence Bourne III: You said opium was money.

Chung Mee: Money is Money.

Lawrence Bourne III: Well then, what is time again?

What I am saying is if you're going to "purchase" a bride, as in the OP talking about having a social event full of FSU women so old, rich, American men could "pay" to meet them, they're getting a good deal with the FSU women because they're "higher value" than women from other parts of the world.

As I've said before, I don't mind paying. I just want a return on my investment. That's all I'm asking. So hopefully the second time around works like that.

Exactly my point. I don't think too many guys really mind spending money on their lady. But they want some kind of return on the investment. They want a lady that's worth something.

I think alot of women (mercedes type) in Russia realize there are plenty of men in Russia who really can afford a nice 'car', and they are actually good drivers, whereas they have come to realize that many American men are only leasing or buying their mercedes on credit, and are horrible drivers to boot.

It's starting to get that way. The more the dollar dips and the rest of the world catches up with median income and average "net worth" the less we'll see of foreign brides in the U.S. (Actually, we'll still see the same number we'll just see them from different countries than where we see them from now.)

Do we really want to compare women to cars? Are we going to start saying, "I took her for a test ride, it was very smooth". I think a better measure is intrinsic value. Much more difficult to evaluate but based upon a happiness scale.

When we get done with all of the comparisons, the only thing that matters is, ARE YOU HAPPY!

I don't think it's a question of happiness, but moreover, a question of if you got a good deal or not. What you need to ask yourself is "did I get a good deal on my car." Or maybe more importantly, "If I could've afforded a nicer model, would I have moved up? Would I have gotten all the bells and whistles, the power locks, cruise control... or did I get a good deal with what I could afford."

I think it's safe to say if we all were millionaires we'd be driving different cars than what we drive now. I wonder, would we not have different signifcant others as well?

That's the measuring stick.
