Yes, there is an additional fee. I believe it's around $400, but you could find out for certain on the USCIS webpage. However, when you are adjusting from a K3 I believe you are required to file for AOS before you are eligible for an EAD. I know that's the case for K1s and I am pretty certain K3s are the same.

See my timeline for my K-1 and AOS/EAD/AP details.

I beleive a K-3 can file for an EAD before filing for AOS. the filing fee is $340. for a K-1 it doesn't make sense coz the I-94 expires in 90 days.

Hi everyone. I have a small question. Is there a fee for the application of EAD if not applied along with the AOS? Me and my husband will be able to apply AOS in few months and I need to get EAD to apply for SSN. Your answers are greatly appreciated. Thank you...

Fee for I-765 EAD is $340 - Biometrics (if required) would be additional. Of course you realize you are spending money that could go toward your AOS filing fee (which would include the EAD).

Thanks so much for your answers. Just another question, how long does AOS usually is approved? I need to apply first for AOS then before I can get SSN. How long is the waiting time? Thanks so much:)

you need to have either an EAD or green card to file for an SSN. when you file for AOS, the I-485 and I-765 ( EAD) are processed separately. it usually take about 3 months for the EAD card, the green card longer...

Application for Employment Authorization

Filing Fee :

$340

Special Instructions :

If you filed a Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, on July 30, 2007, or after, then no fee is required to file a request for employment authorization on Form I-765. You may file the I-765 concurrently with your I-485, or you may submit the I-765 at a later date. If you file Form I-765 separately, you must also submit a copy of your Form I-797C, Notice of Action, receipt as evidence of the filing of an I-485.

You may want to file your AOS / I-485 as well as the I-765 at the same so that you just have to pay for only I-485. You can't apply I-765 unless you have a notice of action from filing your AOS.
