Dick Cheney Calls 9/11 the "Highest Moment" of the Last Eight Years

On Fox News yesterday, Chris Wallace asked ####### Cheney to identify the "highest moment" of the last eight years. It wasn't a trick question.

Cheney pondered this for a few moments before answering, "Well, I think the most important, the most compelling, was 9/11 itself, and what that entailed, what we had to deal with."

Wallace followed up by noting that the highest moment was also the lowest, which Cheney was quick to agree with.

Now, to be fair, Cheney didn't exactly say that terrorist attacks that killed 3,000 Americans was the "highest moment" of the Bush presidency; he instead changed the question a bit to make 9/11 the "most important" moment.

But it was still rather odd. Jed noted, "t tells you something about the darkness of Cheney's mind that this was the first thing to come to his mind when looking for bright spots over the past eight years was 9/11."

The highest moment was no other 9/11 scale attack for the rest of the presidency (up until today at least).

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

In the context of the original question - it was certainly a bit of a faux pas.

Given that 9/11 was a largely unprecedented event, I'm not sure that that claim really holds much relevance.

The true Highest Moment of the last 8 years will be when the change of administration officially takes place.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Even though last night, when the Bears beat the Packers by a field goal, in OT... was pretty high too. Too bad the temperature was like 2 degrees F.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

That's my choice. What's yours?

Were there any high points in the last 8 years?

Lets see: 9/11, two wars, Hurricane Katrina and now a deep recession. I'm trying hard to find the joy here...

I think it depends how you classify "high point."

While 9/11 was indeed a terrible disaster for the U.S., it was also one of the very few times everyone in America (and most of the world) came together to work as one. So that could be a "high point" for some.
