When should I contact DOS regarding my husbands case?

He had his interview last Thursday and was put on AP, so when is a good time to contact DOS regarding his case? And what do I say when I do call them?

I would say find out why he's on AP before you call anyone.

He's on AP because he's from Pakistan. Nobody is going to give any other reason or information until the AP is complete or additional information is asked for. There's reallly nobody to call that will get you any information or help in any way until more than six months have passed.

Sure, you can do that. What's the point. That IS what they'll say, no matter when you call or what you ask regarding AP. It's a black hole.

It depends on who you get and how you ask. They will not tell you what they are looking for, but they might tell you which ones they are doing. They can also tell you when they are done with their processing and when they have sent it back to the consulate. To tell someone that they will never get any answer but 4-6 months is erronous.

Nessie I don't think it is to much if you check the status of your case on a weekly basis. Just be friendly and thank them for their assistance. Some are willing to give you details and some aren't. But if you are kind it makes them more willing to help you. Remember names and use them. Tell them you appreciate them taking time out of their busy schedule to assist you and to have a nice day. Just treat them how you would want to be treated. I wouldn't leave it to the lawyer, too impersonal. And you could probably get more out of them than some here think. Most of them were very kind and helpful in assisting me when I called. Some gave the standard response and some didn't.

I started calling dos,weekly, after one month after his interview. He got the call from the embassy to send in his passport after 6 weeks of ap. He is also from Pakistan. When he called me and told me the embassy had called I serouisly thought it was a joke from his friends or something. His sister took the call. I called the dos right away and they told me that i would be getting company soon and congratulations. We had many redflags also. He has a very very common name, big age difference, different religions ect. He is now in the next room sleeping like a baby . So dont get discouraged he may be off ap sooner than you think even if he is from Pakistan. I didnt email the embassy or call my congressmen I just kept calling dos each week. I think thats all you can do for now.

I did email them one week before he got the call to get his visa. I just stated that I would be in Pakistan visiting him and that if they needed to reach me I would be at his cell phone number. He was able to fly back home with me. I hope you have smooth journey like we did and good luck.
