Do your parents feel happy about your marriage?

the very first thing her Dad said to me when I first met him and asked for her hand in marriage was to tell me that he thought her ex-husband was the greatest man who ever lived (no paraphrasing).

Wow. What an a$$

One thing I've noticed, is that unless you are born into money or were fortunate enough to have your parents save to pay for college, many Americans have college debt. I am one of 7 children and there was no way money was coming to me for college. But I don't feel bad about my student loan debt. I didn't hide it and I don't know if my in-laws know about it or not (why would they need to? they aren't paying it off) but my husband's theory is that with 2 incomes we'll pay it off sooner. If it hadn't been for my student loans I wouldn't have a master's degree because I was a single mom working two jobs in college. I don't see why ANYONE should be ashamed of having college debt. Overloaded credit card debt is one thing, but education loans....different story, IMHO.

My parents love my fiance and are happy that she'll be joining our family. Her parents however, have mixed feelings to put it nicely. I think her father and grandmother like me, but at the same time, they see it as they are losing a dear family member. Her mother doesn't like me at all, but that's ok, she's a malcontent, she can't help it I guess. The thing that really bugs me is that they constantly try to badmouth me or get her to find a Canadian guy that is closer to where she lives now. I really hate the passive aggressiveness of it all. I really wish they'd just tell me to my face. Oh well.......

Oh, and now, we suspect that they took and hid her package 3 after the Embassy in Montreal sent it 2 months ago. We're having it resent, to the same address that they had on file at the Embassy.

WOW, how horrible

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

Well, on one hand, I do see their point of view. I mean, if I had a daughter and she was going to move to another country 2500 miles away from her family, I think i'd be a little hesitant to let her go. But on the other hand, I see how pety they are being about trying to get her to stay. When we first got engaged, I offered to move to Canada, but we decided that California was a better option. I've long since given up on seeking their approval or support. I just hope they can get over it at some point.

My father told me that 'he' (my now Hubby) probably had 25 kids in the hills of Jamaica and 5 Baby Mama's and was just using me for a Green Card to the U.S. Which once he received would file for his favorite baby Mama and drop me like a hot potato!!

However, since Ken arrived my Dad has had to eat crow!! My Dad was rushed to the hospital and had to have emergency stomach surgery! When he came home from the hospital...the only one that wasn't working was Ken. So Ken takes care of my Dad while he recovers at home during the day.

He LOVES his new son-in-law that cooks his favorite Jamaican dishes, puts up his Christmas lights around the house, does his laundry, fixes all his electronic #######, has someone to talk to about Jamaica (I was born in UK-my Dad and Ken are Jamaican). He also sees that Ken treats me like a Queen.

My father actually apologized to me for Judging Ken before having the opportunity to know him! He now strongly approves of our marriage and probably likes Ken more than me!!

Hang in there...If he makes you happy...then the people that love you should be happy!

Bless-ed,

Gill

My parents were shocked that I asked Umit to marry me.

Not because of Umit, because I am 43, and this is my first time marriage! They thought I was a confirmed single man for life...

Sadly, my Father passed away about a month after Umit first visited me in August last year, so he won't see his first born son married, but I know he was very happy I finally will have the means to continue the bloodline

My Mother is jumping for joy to have Umit here, so - I can say I am lucky

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

Extremely.

There are times though I got jealous since their attention is only focus to my husband now when he first visited me. In the other hand, I'm so happy too since Im one of the luckiest people who never had problem in dealing with parents about acceptance of my husband so as with my mom in law, she loves me too.

We're very fortunate because my parents really like my husband. My stepdad and hubby get along like father and son and I think it's great since my stepdad has no boys and my hubby didn't have a dad growing up.

I couldn't ask for a better relationship between my spouse and my family!

I COMPLETELY agree with this! You have to spend money (sometimes) to make money. An education is extremely important.

Same here! Both my parents and my in-laws have been absolutely wonderful.

And they also get on very well with each other. Our mothers are so similar it's uncanny, and I've not seen my dad be so chatty with anyone in a while!

Nope! Can't say mine do :( I think my in-laws hold that against me too (that my parents don't accept mixed race marriage). They try to be friendly though that's more important. I am marrying my babe and he is marrying me, it's not a three way marriage. Thank you God. :)
