from yahoo news:

HILO, Hawaii – A Hilo Chevrolet dealer who tried to crush his Asian auto competition found the stunt a little harder to pull off than expected.

Island Chevrolet general sales manager James Severtson arranged for a Chevrolet Suburban SUV outfitted with massive tires costing $5,000 apiece to drive over a Honda Accord.

On the first attempt Friday, the monster truck blew a hydraulic hose and leaked vital fluid while the Honda remained intact and ready for more.

After several hours, the truck was repaired and driver Ryan Kepiki tried again, this time with a Hyundai Excel sedan parked next to the Honda.

Kepiki drove over the cars' hoods, destroying the windshields to the seeming delight of the rush-hour crowd.

Severtson said the dealership had been planning the crush-fest for a while. But he said it was a happy coincidence President Bush approved a bailout for U.S. automakers as the weekend arrived.

"We'd like to send the message that the best way to support your country is to buy an American vehicle today," Severtson said.

Ah, SUV's, most are 4WD and those that have taken them off the road quickly learned they weren't made for that, 4WD falls apart, strictly for Park Ave or a silk smooth interstate. With leather and carpeting, if you do go out into a muddy field, no place to clean your shoes, really have a mess, if you can get home.

So what is their sales appeal? Exactly what that dealer was trying to prove, the feeling of power for the driver, ha, have a 90 pound woman neighbor that loves her Ford Expedition, does it really take a 4 ton vehicle to haul around a 90 woman?

I have a certain fear of SUV's when driving a small Honda or Toyota, they are out to kill you, but let's not leave it there, both Honda and Toyota also make some pretty big toys, the Land Cruiser is one of them. Those you can find on the lots around here, but don't even bother trying to find a Corrola or a Civic, let alone a Prius.

It's not a case of America versus Japan or Korea, but a case of big vehicles verus small vehicles. Can't believe the number of single occupants driving these huge oversized vehicles in town, damn things take up two parking spaces and they have to drive forward and reverse a zillion times trying to squeeze in.

Where I get my thrill, is driving my huge motorhome, now that scares the hell out of SUV drivers espeically when they see that huge steel front bumper compared to their plastic ones. So they do not try to cut me off like they do when driving a small vehicle.

Really a joke to see a family of six try to jam into the front seat of a huge monster pickup, along with their groceries, most of the drivers are short little guys, but they want to compensate by driving a huge vehicle, the bed is empty and worthless to them. Feel like I am living in a country loaded with idiots. These crazy things are lucky to get 3-7 mpg when driving in town. Also some political corruption here where the EPA does not require these oversized pieces of ####### to specify fuel economy ratings.

Having the feeling of power is the only reason why people buy these things.

 Because nothing demonstrates the superiority of a car than whether or not you can crush it with another car.

Presumably everyone ought to be driving monster trucks around...

Perhaps he can follow it up with a full size poster of a woman stepping on another woman's neck, with the subtitle "mine is better".

I drive past that dealership every day. They've always got some kind of promo going on. This week is the ugliest truck, ugliest dog contest. I wish hubby would enter because the Blazer and Dale would take the grande prize. Maybe he could win the busted up Chevy with the $20,000 tires.

Presumably you've never been to the Big Island, where your ####### is only as big as your lift kit and tires.
