When we adjusted static, one of the forms for my step daughter was for permission to work.

Even though she is really to young to work others said this was a easier way to get her an Social Security Number.

Well her card arrived but it does not have an SSN number on it, do I need to take this to the S Security office to get one?

Will I need to wait for the completion of AOS?

You get the EAD from USCIS and using the EAD you get the SS number and card from a SSA office.

Yes, she would need to go to her local SS office and apply for an SSN. I got my work permit on Saturday and am going to my local office to get mine next week. I'm taking my passport and birth certificate also with me just in case they ask for it. From what I'm told she should be issued with an SSN number right then and there, and then receive her card in the mail about 2 weeks later

Only if you want a new card without the writing on it. The EAD card will show that you have approval from DHS, so the SS card with writing on it is valid for work if you show the EAD card with it.

An EAD does not mean GC is approved. So wouldn't the SSN card still have the writing on it if one has an EAD, as the card only has a year's validity and does not mean PR status granted?

Not that it's important or anything. I just wouldn't want someone to waste their time by going to their SSA office to have that language removed after their EAD arrives.

You are correct. The EAD is a temporary measure, intended to fill the gap until a green card is issued. I don't think the SS office will even think about removing that sentence until a residency card is shown.

With EAD, getting the SSN will show the special text as already noted. After you get the GC, you can go back to SSA and get a new card without the text. The people at the SSA office here told me that after receiving the GC, the SS card with the special text wasn't technically even valid any more, since the GC trumps the work-auth requirement, so to speak.

Well the GC trumps the EAD and is now the "valid work authorization" to show if you still have not replaced the old card....

YMMV
