Hello all,

I hope one of you out there can help us out. We called to make an appointment at the Visa Information Center but we think we were given some faulty information.

I am the petitioner of my husband and have been living here since the end of 2006.

The lady we spoke to when we made the appointment told us that we needed to pay a CONSULAR RIGHT FEE OF $131. As you may already know calling is expensive so I did not question were this new fee came from. What's more she told me to pay this at a bank that no longer exists so I figure these people are misinformed.

Anyway, I went to the US Embassy in El Salvador website and the only fee I saw for this amount was for non immigrant visas for students, tourists and temporary workers...My husband would be coming on an immigrant visa so I think this so called Consular Right fee which I could not find on the US embassy website does not apply to us.

I just want to double check that I was given faulty info...

Thanks!

$131 is for a K-Visa, NOT CR-1.

The correct fee for an IMMIGRANT visa is $355 + $45

What's the $45 for?
# Immigrant visa security surcharge, for all IV and DV applicants: $45.00

I am not sure if consulate collects the $45 or $70 for processing an I-864.

Thank you to all who answered. I did not have a chance to check your responses until now, after the interview! The town I live in is celebrating it's patron saint and right along with Christmas everything is closed.

Anyway, you were correct. We were only told of the $400 dollar fee. And the $13 for the courier to deliver the visa. We also noticed the other fee the lady mentioned when we scheduled was for other people not us. I believe it was for tourist visas. So thanks!

One more thing, in case any of you are wondering you can pay the $400 during the first or second interview. I had the money outside and my husband could not pay in the first and was adviced to pay in the second.
