You cannot get in or out of our town at the moment. All interstates and highways are closed. It's horrendously icy. My friend has just phoned me and asked me to dump hot water on her car door (she's parked outside our house) so she can get into the bloody thing when she leaves work in a bit.

It's really nasty. I love snow but ice I hate with a vengeance.

get platy's 4 wheel drive out and have some fun!

We've already been out in it once!

My son has just left to stay round a friends and I just watched him slide all the way down the street. He was laughing his head off the entire time. He's insane.

Yes, the unusual has indeed become the usual.

Yesterday, I ducked into a restaurant doorway to await the bus.

A woman came into the foyer and was bundling up, looking at me, so I looked back and smiled.

The conversation went like this:

her: "You live here." (implied not asked)

me: "I have moved here recently and I will be moving away ASAP." (still smiling)

her: "I live in Las Vegas, and this is way too much for me. How do you people do it?!"

me: "Oh? Did you come here to escape the snow?" (full on laughing now)

her: not amused at all...oops... she says, "I will be leaving as soon as I can and it is not soon enough!"

me: as she is leaving... "Enjoy! Be safe."

Yup, she was just being my mind speaking out loud.

We are all mirrors for each other.

Well, another things, perhaps I should put this in the vent thread:

I really hate it when people say to me, "You are from Canada. You should be used to this!"

They have obviously never been to the WestCoast.

I left Winter behind when I moved from Montreal to Vancouver January '95.

And now...I should get me head examined...living in Chicago.

Oh love is truly blind... hahahahaahahahaahahahaahahaaaaaaahhhhaaaaaahahahahaha!!!

:star:

You should have hit her with the pepper spray. :jest:

Niiiice!

If you're not laughing, you might be crying.

So insanity is appropriate for the occasion!

NW Indiana, Hammond - maybe 3 inches of snow out but it started raining half an hour ago so I'm guessing it will freeze by midnight. Roads not cleaned too well.

Urbana, IL got the freezing rain - sister was sent home from work at 4. Went to take pictures of frozen trees - crazy.

Supposed to snow again tonight in Seattle. We still have two or three layers of snow/ice combo on most of the streets  Guess we're havin' a white Christmas!

Spirit, it's not usually like this here. In fact, I love Seattle and will never leave here unless it's to move to Germany. But the fact that it's never like this here is all the more reason why the city is so unprepared. Crazy stuff I tell you!

louisville,KY

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

LOL But ya know I am in central Florida and last night I was cold in bed, with the house being 69 degrees. I had to turn the heat to 71 to get the chill out and then turn it back down to 69. Sometimes I can tolerate it colder in the house, but some nights if it gets below 70 inside I get a chill that just won't leave. I think our blanket is too thin. Floridians, eh. (well it was in the 40's the last two nights I believe)

I know, I could have slid down the road earlier - now its just soggy!

my uncle said it took him 3hrs to get home from Vincennes today...that's normally an hour drive

Yeah, it's just been horrible here in IN this winter. Ugh. I miss London and its "never gets much below freezing" weather!

Ha, thought for sure by buying a new snow thrower, it wouldn't snow, but in the last two weeks we received about 16" already. In central Wisconsin, a much milder winter than last. Last year we had sub-zero weather in October that lasted well into March, didn't even get my leaves raked. This year, only sub-zero for three days, and that was last week.

All depends upon the direction of the winds, a SW wind brings in warm air from Arizona, but a north wind is what we call an arctic blast.
