Best service for sending packages USA to UK?

For anybody who has sent packages to their partners in a USA/Brit relationship.. (to the UK, which seems to be more expensive than UK to USA) which courier service do you use? A lot of places seem to be pretty expensive.

Depending on what you are sending, the USPS has flat rate boxes you can ship internationally. They are $38.95 for a smaller box, and $49.95 or something for a larger one. That's what we did for my husbands family. i was able to fit gifts for 5 people in the box, I think it weighed about 8lbs and it was only $38.95. Insurance is pretty cheap too. I think the lady told me it came with $86 but I purchased extra and it was only like $4 for another $100 in coverage on insurance. I haven't checked with UPS or FEDEX. If what you are getting is small enough to fit in those boxes i'd assume they'd be a better deal.

We use USPS to Germany - for whatever reason, sending things to Germany is much more expensive than the other way around...go figure..

USPS is the way to go. My mom sent us stuff to the UK when I was there through UPS, what a mistake cost alot more then USPS and took so much longer!!

We also use USPS even though technically we're sending things to the North of Ireland which is part of the UK we send them as Ireland which actually gets things there a few days faster we noticed. USPS seem to have decent rates, we sent (didn't use flat rate) a bunch of stuff back just last week. It was an average sized box and it came out at $55 for 10lb 4.4oz according to the receipt. We checked with UPS one time and they wanted something like $80 for just a smaller package.. we left and headed back to USPS!

Vito allways uses the post office. unless its something he orders online and sends direct, then they dictate.

I'd say it depends on what you're shipping. If it's highly valuable, I'd definitely go with FedEx, but otherwise, I'd suggest either UPS or USPS.
