This will be my first Christmas with my SO and we'll be apart and neither of us has much money for phone calls. I pray it's the only Christmas apart. I have no motivation to do anything holiday related at all. We don't even have a tree yet and all the decorations are still in the attic.

Right on point WhidbeyGirl  I feel the same way. This will be my first Christmas with my SO and we're apart. yah, my tree is still in the closet also, i've been too lazy to get it out. I was only able to get out my wreath and door mat :) As for celebrating Christmas with my So our gift to each other that day will just be spending long hours on the phone talking and joking. I'll also be spending some time with some of his relatives over here so we'll be discussing how that went. :P

I sometimes have trouble being a member of the interview gone wrong club. Others look at various time lines and assume as I did that you will reunited by such and such a date. Then diaster falls and you end up in purgatory. You no longer have a sense that you will be together by the end of the year or even what year you will be together. I have stopped reading the list Zee carefully keeps as it has no meaning anymore. We tell each other we will be together but there is no time line for that . No real plans for a wedding date , a dress that sits in the closet. My kids don't even mention holidays to me. I will be going there for training and I have a time line for that because I have to know how to do my part when the ceramony for him to take the trone is but the rest of my life is definately in limbo.

( yes I am in a down mood today I think if I hear one more person talk at work about what they have planned for the holidays I will scream)

Hello VJ Members,

I sadly have to inform you that my husband was denied his visa today on the basis that his mother refused to answer the investigating officers questions about our marriage. She did not answer the lady's questions because the officer did not identify herself as am embassy official and the officer was asked at least twice to identify herself and she would not. She only told my mother-in-law to answer her questions, so my MIL told her no she would not. My husband's brother was interviewed by this same woman who did answer her questions and said yes, his brother was married to a lady from the United States. He was asked why the neighbors didn't know of the marriage and he told her that they don't shout family business in the streets. The fact of the matter is that we were married in Abuja and not Lagos, so neighbors wouldn't be aware that we were married. I have contacted my congressman and I have spoken with Department of State. Department of State told me to call them tomorrow as the embassy has not updated the computer. I wanted to lodge a complaint as that is not a good reason to deny a visa, especially when you had a successful interview with another family member who said yes, he was married. If anyone else has any suggestions as to what else I can do, please feel free. I can use all the help I can get.

Thanks,

Deb

So sorry Deb, I know you are hurting (F)

Another prime example of a CO's influence to deny without any reason whatsoever.

I will link you up with what you can do next. Hang on !

I hope this helps and that you get it overturned as soon as possible. It doesn't help that Illinois is still without a second senator at this time and you can only utilize Durbin and Congressman Costello.

Obama's office was very helpful to me when he was still a senator.

It terrible when things like this happen. Lagos from my experience is stuburn in their decisions and makes some absolutely illegal decisions. Try getting in contact with Mark Ellis he has a lot of experience with rejections. Look more to working it in the US probably and if you get Lagos too PO'd they will sit on returning it forever.

I hear you all.......separation kind of takes the zing out of the zang. My extend of a Christmas tree is my palm tree that has lights

on all throughout the year. I plug it in. Ho Ho Ho and Merry Christmas.

I halfheartedly go to some Christmas parties and drag my celery through the dip.

Anyway Jesus is the reason for the season and that is where I get the most comfort.

I also enjoy my grandkids opening presents with wide eyes and anticipation.

We always say next Christmas, next Birthday, next this and that we will bw together and next has not arrived.

Let us never lose hope ! (F)

I am so sorry you and your SO are going through such an ordeal. Please do not give up. And try to remember that a delay is not necessarily a denial. (F)

ALL things work TOGETHER for GOOD!
