Just a quick one (I'll go on about my hate later).

In English, when you address someone, either in a letter or in a written statement (a thank you memo type thing in this case) and you don't know about the martial staus of a woman, you address them with Ms. regardless of how old they are.

Is that correct?

Yes, always Ms.

I don't like Madam as it can also refer to marital status.

All letters in the UK will, if they don't know your name, address you as madam. But, I think I'm older than you, so they may teach things differently now. I dunno!

Now, Madame, is another matter! :P

I do, or I use the term "Madam" instead. That's what I was taught in the UK, anyway. If you start the letter off using their name, you sign it "yours sincerely", if you use the greeting Sir or Madam, it's "yours faithfully".

I think the States is totally different, of course. :P

Thanks Ladies!

This is a long text (an email to be sent out to all team members) I am writing, with bullet points addressing our gratitude to people who were involved in the project as in: Ms. Smith, Mr. Black, Ms. Miller of XYZ were always patient and well prepared for the workshops bla bla bla

Some of these ladies are 50+, but then who knows if they are married so I feel that Ms. would be appropriate.

Think how interesting it could be if you called them Madam Smith, Mr Black and Madam Miller though! :P

But in that context, yes, Ms is best. I got all confuzzled, thinking you were starting a letter off with their names.

I need coffee. Or something.

Not me! I'm innocent I tell you, INNOCENT!

On a side note, I just asked to be made 3/4 time at work after the babies come instead of staying full time. For any of you that pray, please do so on this issue. Right now we can't find childcare except for my sil. But she can't keep them all day long. If I can get put on 3/4 time that would help us tremendously.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

So we went for Ms. and I won the discussion. :P

What pic did Pedro post, I can't see...the grumpy care bear on the cloud again?

Ohh my colleague just gave me the magazine she is subscribed to...it's called "My beloved cat" and guess what it's about. lol

What are you all having for lunch? I had some Laksa, but I am getting hungry already and can't wait for the fondue tonight. Yum.

Any plans for the weekend? I am going to sort through all my clothing and throw the old or too small items out, will sort through my bathroom shelf and clean out the kitchen cupboards.

Mel is coming over on Thursday, so I better start cleaning.
