I'm good. I'm finally getting over the m/s but now I'm (TMI alert) constipated. I hate being constipated. I keep drinking water and any other drink I can get my hands on but still can't seem to get enough to help the situation. It's really starting to annoy me.

so now we can officially say booty is full of...........

:P

:luv:

Yes, I am!  The thing is, nothing annoys me more than not being able to go to the bathroom. It's one of my OCD issues. I like to go once a day, at least. If I don't, it starts stressing me out.

Girl, it's time to up your fiber intake - big time! It will help. I hope you feel better. Before I was pregnant, I was so regular that I went after every meal. Just like a baby! :innocent::whistle:

I know but I can't think of anything that has fiber in it. I eat oatmeal for breakfast every day. I usually eat an apple or an orange. I eat carrots. I drink plenty of liquids. I don't know what else to add to my diet. Like I said, I'm not a big fruit and veggie eater.

OK - well if you like oatmeal, Quaker Oats just came out with a high-fiber oatmeal with 10grams of DF. Awesome!!! Nature's Own makes a high-fiber bread with 7 grams of DF in each slice. Thomas' English muffins makes a high fiber english muffin with 8 grams of fiber. So you see, it's not impossible to get this into your diet. Furthermore, just say "Viva Mexico" and eat up the frijoles.

Sweet! See, I had no idea because I haven't been to the grocery store in about a month. I've been giving Javi a list and he's been going. I just haven't had the energy to go. I'll have to muster some up the next trip and go with him. Hopefully those things will help. I love english muffins. I usually eat a couple of pieces of bread a week too so having the high fiber bread would also help. I'll definitely work on the beans issue too.

Oh yes! They are lovely. I eat a ton of high-fiber foods so I hope it will work for you.

Not every animal is tarred with the same brush. IT is an ARMY WIDE policy unfortunately...*sigh*. But I still think I am going to send an email to the base commander, suggesting a case by case temperament test. Maybe he will consider it, and take it higher up for consideration. I know the chances are minimal, but you dont know until you try, right?

Any thoughts?,..Charles,..I would appreciate your input,...

ok,..rant over....

if it's an army wide policy, i don't see the base commander having any leeway. i'll look and see if i can find this new reg.

yeah, I know Charles,..thats why I said I think chances are minimal,...if you can find the reg,..please let me know,..I would like a copy.

it is effective immediately for people already on bases with pets,....but people PCSing after FEB 1, can not take animals under the new reg with them on base if they listed under the order.....

The only discrepancy I can find, is i found an article dated Jan 8, out of FT. leavenworth,..and they were talking about bases with privatised housing only,...Are all bases privatised yet?

I would like to know the exact ruling on this, if all bases are not privatised housing,....we are right now,..but our next base may not be,...

Thanks Charles,...

found this, not the specific reg or anything, it's part of our leavenworth lamp:

New Army policy bans some dogs from privatized on-post housing

A new policy bans certain breeds of dog deemed "aggressive or potentially aggressive" from being kept in privatized on-post housing, the Army announced Jan. 5.

"This policy is in response to the Army's request for standardization regarding pets in privatized housing," Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Energy and Partnerships Paul P. Bollinger Jr. wrote in a memorandum to the assistant chief of staff for Installation Management. "It takes into consideration the safety, welfare and quiet enjoyment of all residents in privatized housing and was developed with input from current residents, garrisons and (Army) Headquarters."

The policy specifically names pit bulls, such as American Staffordshire bull terriers and English Staffordshire bull terriers, as well as Rottweilers, Doberman pinschers, chows and wolf hybrids as banned from privatized housing, and extends to other breeds and mixed breeds of dogs that "demonstrate a propensity for dominant or aggressive behavior."

The policy further defines this behavior as unprovoked barking, growling or snarling at people approaching the animal; aggressively running along fence lines when people are present; biting or scratching people; and escaping confinement or restriction to chase people.

The policy also states that residents of privatized housing may not have exotic pets, including reptiles, rodents other than hamsters and guinea pigs, ferrets, hedgehogs, skunks, raccoons, squirrels, pot-bellied pigs, monkeys, arachnids or any farm animals.

The policy, which is effective immediately, grandfathers current tenants of privatized housing until they vacate on-post housing or until a pet demonstrates dominant or aggressive behavior to people, as previously described.

Fort Leavenworth's privatized housing partner, Fort Leavenworth Frontier Heritage Communities, already bans exotic pets as defined in its resident handbook. FHC's policies also include a right to refuse to allow any pet determined to be "vicious." FHC has the right to order the removal of a pet because of neighbor complaints or if the pet displays "aggressive, menacing or vicious behavior" and can terminate the Pet Addendum to the lease of residents who fail to comply with pet rules.

FHC Assistant Community Manager Denise Stephens said the policy will affect inbound residents, and the resident handbook will be changed to reflect the new Army policy.

a rebuttal to it, same newspaper:

Letter to the editor: Reader asks Army to reconsider breed-specific policy

Editor's note: The following letter was sent to Paul P. Bollinger Jr., deputy assistant secretary of the Army for Energy and Partnerships, in response to the article "New Army policy bans some dogs from privatized on-post housing," which appeared in the Jan. 8 issue of the Fort Leavenworth Lamp.

Dear Sir:

I am writing to urge you to reconsider the recent pet policy change for privatized post housing. This policy will not accomplish the goal of securing the "safety, welfare and quiet enjoyment" of post housing residents. Instead of targeting the real reasons some dogs are aggressive, it provides a false sense that the Army is "doing something" about dangerous dogs.

In reality, banning a specific breed (instead of banning dangerous dogs and irresponsible owners) is akin to banning an ethnic group from housing. There is no more certainty that a dog of a certain breed will be dangerous than there is certainty that a member of a certain ethnic group will commit a violent crime.

The Humane Society of the United States, the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the American Veterinary Medical Association all agree that breed-specific measures do not address the problems created by dangerous dogs in a community. Abuse, aggression training and irresponsible dog ownership are the real causes of the problem, so educating people and holding owners accountable for responsible care of their dogs of all breeds are far more effective means to reduce the number of dog bites and attacks.

Any dog can bite or be aggressive, but the three organizations above and a National Canine Research Council report cite the following as factors that influence a dogs' tendency to bite:

- Early socialization, or lack thereof, of the dog to people.

- Sound obedience training, or mistraining for fighting or increased aggression.

- Genetic makeup, including breed, and strains within a breed.

- The animal's health status.

- Quality of care and supervision of the owner (dogs kept as part of the family vs. dogs banned to a fenced enclosure or chained in the yard).

- Behavior of the victim.

- Whether the dog has been spayed or neutered.

The breed ban included in the new pet policy will place an undue burden on post veterinary clinics and local animal control agencies and rescues, as people seek to unload their banned dogs by relinquishing them, or worse, abandoning them. These animals are likely to be destroyed as space in shelters and availability of rescue options are taxed. Many of these animals will have shown absolutely no tendency toward aggression and have been nothing but loved family pets.

Banning breeds will not discourage those who want to use their dogs in inappropriate ways or address the problem of other irresponsible owner behavior. Criminals will simply choose another breed to abuse and train to be aggressive. Irresponsible owners will continue to fail to provide their "approved" breeds the care, training and socialization that result in well-behaved dogs. People unfamiliar with animal behavior will continue to put themselves in positions that make it more likely they will be attacked.

The experts in animal behavior agree that reducing dog aggression and attacks requires a community approach to responsible pet ownership, involving veterinary professionals, behaviorists and trainers, owners, parents, educators, children and "those in charge." The goal is to prevent dogs from becoming dangerous and to teach people to interact with dogs in ways that are safer. There are many resources available to help guide a community approach - simply search the Internet for "dog bite prevention."

This new misguided breed ban is destined to fall short of accomplishing its goal. Education and training, mandatory spay/neuter, and enforced standards for the care of pets will be far more effective in securing the "safety, welfare and quiet enjoyment" of housing by all residents.

Thank you for your concern for military families and communities.

Sincerely,

Crystal Swann Blackdeer

U.S. Army, Retired
