I am just coming back from SS office and they said that they don't have any record of my SSN.

Lady out there put my Alien Registration number on her computer and it didn't show up anything. I am in US for around 24 days now. She asked me to call immigration, but I am not sure who to call.

Do I need to call up DOS or USCIS? If anyone can give me the number to call I will much appreciate.

Thanks for your time.

I haven't yet received my welcome letter either

This is the guide for SSN, but its not really clear for CR-1/IR-1 immigrants.

So even though their data base doesn't show me being assigned of any SSN, can I still fill up the form and submit it there and will they issue me a SSN like that?

Hi trinket,

The question i want to ask in general is that what did you fill out in question 33a. of DS230? Did you answer "YES" to question whether you want Social Security Administration to assign and issue you a Social Securitycard? If you answer YES then SSA will 'hopefully' send a new card to you? what I don't know is how long does it take to get that new card. If they don't send a card and if you go to SS office and fill out an application, officer at SS oficce should just give you a card based on a number that they have assigned to you in their system, right?

thanks,

CS

Hi crazysamurai,

Yes I did fill out 33a as YES. And I am just coming back from SS office. The lady out there took my passport and went to my VISA page, typed out my Registration number on her computer and told me how there is no data in there, she even showed me her computer screen, so I can match up the Alien registration number.

She didn't say anything about filling up any forms, so I guess I will have to make a run about again on monday and get things cleared up and fill up the form whichever is needed.

You can just fill up SS-5 form from SSA office, and they will issue SSN with your passport, and I-551 stamp.
