I am so excited I can't stand it! I just had to tell you all about it. :D

After a year and a half of not working, a couple of weeks ago, I posted that I had 4 job interviews coming up. Well it actually turned into 5, 3 of them were in environment/wildlife conservation, one was with an art museum and one with a dance company. All were Development jobs, which is my field. (In brief, I raise major gifts and estate gifts from individuals).

It seems that Washington DC is the capital of nonprofits and charities, and there seems to be a shortage of really good development professionals to fill them all. Since I have 10 years of experience and an award, I guess they were interested in me DESPITE my lack of a degree. One of the conservation places didn't want to go beyond a phone interview with a head hunter because I changed jobs too much according to them. Their loss I guess.....

Anyway, I am thrilled to say that my favourite of the conservation groups, the Jane Goodall Institute, has just called to offer me the position of Director of Major & Planned Gifts!!!!!!

I am so excited because ever since I was a child I wanted to be a biologist (that, and a dancer!). Unfortunately I just don't have a mathematical brain, so a career in science was beyond my reach, but I always idolized Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey and David Attenborough. I can't believe that I will now be working for the betterment of the world under the auspices of a childhood idol!

The job is the most senior position I have held in a larger organization (I was Director of Development in a small opera company), as well as having someone (and later more than one person) reporting to me! I hope I will be a good boss...that is a new concept for me!

I will be starting on June 15, so my long holiday is coming to a crashing halt. :crying::P I am looking forward to having money again, and to paying off some of our considerable debts! And buying new CLOTHES! :D I am thrilled that they will be letting me take the first week of July off to go back home to Canada to go to our cottage out in the wilderness.

The best part about this job is I will be doing a LOT of travel around the US (about 30% of my time) AND I will have the opportunity to go to Africa to see the work being done there - a priceless opportunity to me!

This is definitely going to be a crazy, busy but rewarding phase of my life.

Time to celebrate!!!
