hi all,

I would like to get some recommendations for an immigration attorney/lawyer in the Chicagoland area. If someone has employed a good one in the past, would you be so kind and drop the contact info in this thread? I understand that I can do it myself, but I want to explore the option of someone verifying everything for me. Is it possible that the entire process can speed up if I use an expert in this field?

thank you!

The quickest option is to do it yourself and do it right.

I'll say the same to you as to a poster who was looking for a lawyer in Colorado

honestly unless the immigrant spouse has a criminal record, I would guess that most members here would say you don't need a lawyer.

Maybe consult with one sure, but no need to use one for the entire process. I can think of more cases where they hindered, rather than helped.

A lawyer is not going to speed things up at all. For some people it has slowed it down by several months to over a year!

Do it yourself and save the money you'd spend on a lawyer for a nice trip or new washer and dryer.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

no offence to all you fine lawyers out there...my divorce one was awesome...but unless you are the only case they are currently working on...and if that's the case then I would question their abilities...using a lawyer to confirm and verify documents can only add longer waiting times to this process. When I was going through this I considered it a part-time job...between filling out documents, searching for documents, arranging appts., and the never ending phone calls and site checks for case status.

If you feel better using a lawyer, then dump the whole thing on one and save yourself the grey hair. I'd start with the Yellow Pages and Web and then get recommendations. You're close enough to Canada to think about Toronto lawyers. Here's a good one I used for a house sale even though he's an immigration specialist. http://www.globalmigration.com

If you feel more comforatable with an attorney, you must have your reasons. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise; this is a very individual decision.

You can get referrals to immigration attorneys through their trade group here: www.aila.org

Be sure to talk with family-based practitioners instead of those who do mainly business immigration work.
