Hi all,

I haven't seen anything like this on the forum yet, but I could very well be missing something; in that case, I apologize and hope that someone can direct me to the/a relevant thread.

Here's the question: what things (big or small) did you worry/stress about during the K-1 process that in the end weren't a big deal, or weren't a problem at all?

This might sound trivial, but given that so many threads deal with the opposite (i.e., things you didn't consider and turned out to be problems/ RFEs), I think it could provide some comfort to those of us who tend to worry into the late hours of the night about even the tiniest details of our forms, evidence, etc.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and/or direction to related threads!

I haven't searched for this, but I'd guess that a lot of people can say that they worried about stuff that turned out to be no big deal because anyone who gets through a petition with no delays, RFEs, problems with lawyers, Administrative processing, lost packages, delayed certificates, medical anomalies will still have worried about the possibility of at least all but the last one! So in short, if you submit a petition and get granted a visa in a timely, uncomplicated way then you'll have worried about something for nothing.

You read about people worrying about answering N/A when they should have said None and vice versa. People who worry about having put the wrong year down, or making a cheque payable to the wrong name. If they get processed without an RFE, then there wasn't an issue.

People worry because whether you encounter problems that are technically trivial, it's your bad luck of the draw with your CO.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there is plenty that is cause to worry because it's out of your control, and doing so is only human. As long as you know that your documentation is full and your relationship bone fide and you're interviewing at a 'low fraud risk' USEM/Consulate, then take comfort in that and keep everything else crossed!

There are daily threads from VJers worried about things that turn out (often) to be nothing to worry about. The only specific thread that comes to mind is http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4725 which has many postings - it is called The RFE Master List.

Actually... it seems like the biggest worry that is generally not an issue is age differences, limitted number of face to face visits, stuff like that, we see those threads on a daily basis, so much that maybe you overlooked them, they are basically what you are asking about. (Of course it's better if there isn't a large age gap and you've spent months on various occassions with your fiance(e) but most people can't do that and get approved anyway).

There is never anything worth worrying about. I am careful and concerned about most areas of my life; health, social responsbilities, friendships, etc. Worrying is wasted energy from my point of view. Whether one gets an RFE or denial, it never truly helps to worry. Worrying that is chronic can become paralyzing, whereas care, caution, concern, and preparedness all allow one to better navigate any challenges that may arise.

after i sent off for my uk police certificate (i needed to give my passport number, to apply , so you know why i freeked), and had everythingready to mail back for my interview. i found my passport had major heat damage on the picture page and i was worried i would need to get new certs on top of new passport, and was worried it would give me problems like where is the passport with your orignal stamps? after two weeks of freeking out and panicking, i got my new passport back, my old one so that i had my stamps, and an email from embassy telling me that as long as the names the same i do not need a new police certificate. i did feel stupid after, but there were no other examples of this to go by and take reference.

you're interviewing at a 'low fraud risk' USEM/Consulate
The ONE thing to worry about is exactly this -- whether you're interviewing at a high-fraud embassy or consulate. There are many of these, and most are known or can be inferred. There is an additional concern: whether your consulate is rogue or ####### in its application of standards and in the conduct or attitude of its personnel. The only potential preparation is (if there's time) to front-load one's I-129F application with extra evidence of the relationship. USCIS will not care about this extra evidence, but the petitioner can avoid or minimize many potential problems at interview time if the consulate has received this "unnecessary" material directly from USCIS.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

What we worried about and turned out to be nothing:

My husband been in the US 15 years prior on a J visa. He had long ago lost the passport that had the visa number in it. We worried for nothing that we couldn't report this number to USCIS or London and that it would stall or delay the petition.

My husband worried about what was on his police certificate because he had been taken to court many years ago in the UK for back rent to the Housing Executive. He thought that might be on the report.....of course it was not...I don't know why he thought it would be.

We worried a little about his medical exam because he's asthmatic and has high blood pressure. There was no problem with the exam.

I worried excessively (sleepless nights) about the affidavit of support. At both the consulate level and adjustment of status, it was a non-issue.

What we worried about that turned out to be something:

When our interviewer for his adjustment of status told us he could not approve the card that day because his FBI namecheck was not done. Total time to get that greencard...........17 months.

I worried about everything--I was convinced we would fall through the cracks and our petition would never be adjudicated. I then worried because we never received the letter for our interview (we were told via email last Friday that our interview would be conducted this past Wednesday, so there were only two working days in between). They let us in with our email confirmation, however, and everything went really smoothly.

Now, of course, I am worried about POE. After that, I will be worried about the AOS. Sigh.

Everyone worries to some degree I think. Those who say they've never had a worry in this process might be fibbing just a bit!

We knew we had a bona fide relationship, we knew I made plenty of money to support him, we knew we both were well-educated and that he would never "be a burden," we knew Germany is a low-fraud country, we knew our age difference was no big deal (I'm older), but we still worried a bit through each stage. Once we got the NOA2, we wondered how long it would take to get through NVC to Frankfurt. Once it got to Frankfurt, we worried a bit about his interview (not much, just did we have enough evidence, etc). Once he got his visa we worried about the POE. Once we were married we worried about the greencard interview....

None of our worry was debilitating, nor did we spend months wringing our hands, but there was worry there, for sure. I'd be a big fat liar if I said any differently. While worry may be pointless, especially if you have everything you can and you know it's out of your hands anyway, the point is we are putting the fate of our relationship in the hands of a government agency which can, and has, denied people.

I think as long as you are prepared and have done all you can, you may worry a bit, but in the end you'll be fine :)
