Hello.

First, I want to say that this website is a great resource. There is a lot of information available on the Internet- some of it good, some of it bad. I consulted with an immigration lawyer and the info given here jibes with what he told me. It's great to read other couples' success stories by way of encouragement, too.

I'm a DJ and one of the station managers on a small hobby-type Internet radio station (Party FM). One morning in October 2007 I woke up early and couldn't fall asleep again, so I got up and was hanging around in the station's IRC chatroom on Undernet monitoring for idiots and spammers, greeting newcomers, etc. Karen showed up, asking things like "Why isn't there a live DJ?" (we were running a replay of a past live show). I explained that it was 6AM here. :) She PMed me (IRC's private message feature) and we started talking. She kept coming back and PMing me, we got to know each other, we finally fell in love (it was her nagging me about things that did it :) - she wore me down, and it showed that she cared about me), and got engaged just last November. She's the one that asked me! ("If you came here and married me, I wouldn't mind", she said).

I thought about it for a minute then said OK. Why not? I've never been married and I'm not getting any younger. If I'd lost this opportunity I'd kick myself about it forever. Besides, Karen's really cute and a very sweet lady. She has a lot of kind of old-fashioned values, as do I. I think we'll make a good couple and make each other happy- there'll be rough spots as in any relationship, but we'll work through those.

I plan to go to Cebu this coming June or July to meet Karen in person, and upon my return to Seattle I'll apply for a K-1 visa for her, then we'll go from there. Per the immigration lawyer we'd be looking at spring of 2010 before she can come here and join me. We'll get legally married first thing (we plan to hold our own private unofficial ceremony in Cebu this summer, up at Mountaintop Nature Park) then apply for her green card. Hopefully she'd be able to continue staying here with me until she gets that (the lawyer said that she'd be able to, while the green card application is being processed).

Being a computer geek I set up a web-based project management computer application that we're both using to track everything and set our goals and tasks.

We'll buy rings there in Cebu as they're cheaper there than here- we're both into saving money so we can buy a house together later. I also want to try to find a suit there, but I'm almost 6'3" so we'll have to see about that. :)

Hello Jay! I am currently in Cebu. Me and my fiance are still waiting for the petition approval and the waiting is no fun at all. I would love to meet you. Talking about wedding bands, I had mine done here through a very good and trusted friend- jeweler and maker at the same time. My wedding bands will be fabulous! Me and my SO are looking at having my wedding jewelry done here too. I got mine at a very good offer and I am loving it. :D

We are looking at a June wedding over there in good ol' Kentucky. But it's always good to meet more people. Enjoy your stay!

5.01.2014: Called NVC to ask for status of paperwork. Advised they received both application on 4.28. Advised to call in 30 business days for an update.

6.02.2014: Email notification received from NVC that shows parents' NVC case number and instructions to pay AOS Fee and fill out DS 261.

6.03.2014: Paid AOS fee ($88 for both petitions)
