Hey guys, almost ready to file, just waiting on my fiance's info. One thing is, is the Proof of Intent to Marry letter enough for proof?

I know that lots of people submit plans or ring receipts for their future nuptuals, but we don't have those. Is that letter going to be enough? We don't have a ring yet because we are planning on getting a setting for a diamond I have while I am visiting in August. He hasn't officially proposed so I can't tell the circumstances of that. I know that we prob won't get the Visa till next year so I don't want to get a dress now or make any set plans, having no clue of when all this will take place... We will prob be getting married and having a reception at my parents house (so no receipt or info there). We may hire a caterer but we may just do our own food, so no communication there....

Anyone submitted paperwork and the letter of intent sufficed? Any other creative ideas to prove of intent to marry?

In regard to the letter of intent, all you need is to provide of the letter of intent (in the guides) written by each of you and signed by each of you - nothing else is required to prove intent.

Most people don't even have rings or receipts for rings (We didn't.) We just had a vague plan - we will get married in vegas if the visa is granted - but no one asked her at the interview! (We got married in a court - simple in and out deal.) Don't worry about this aspect of the interview - show proof of relationship - letters/emails/chat records etc. Good Luck

Just provide them with evidence that you've been in each other's company within the last two years (i.e. flight itineraries, passport stamps, photographs of you together for every trip you've made to see each other) and that you have a genuine relationship (letters, cards, e-mails, phone bills showing you called each other regularly) and all should be well. The "intent to marry" part, I think, just means that you have a real relationship that would logically lead to the desire to wed. Also, pay attention to how you answer question no. 18 of the I-129F; your response could (should?) express that you're really in love, have been in each other's company, and how/when you decided to get married.

Good luck! Buona fortuna!

Oh dear! I didn't realize that. I just thought they wanted how we met and where (I included that we met online as well but also included the weeks we spent together). I figured they read so many that they wanted just a short and simple answer ("Just the facts, Ma'am." as my dad always likes to quote from Dragnet).

Did everyone else add about how they decided to get married and love stuff? I did put about 12 pictures in the packet and put the best one on top (the one everyone looks at and says, "wow, you two are really in love").

In our letter of intent our lawyer had us talk about how we met with dates if possible. It also mentioned the dates that we saw eachother and in what city. We made a small mention of possible plans for the type of wedding we were hoping to have. We were also advised to have the letters notorized. For evidence we used a few pictures spanning our relationship, and a few emails, phone bills, tickets, passports just to back up the letter. Not sure if this is mandatory or not but we each got a letter from a family member saying that they met us and knew of our engagement and intent to marry. Try to include the dates here as well...just enough to show a good span of the relationship....

LOL -- lovey-dovey. Well, I didn't write "When Schmookums and I fell in wuv" or anything. I mostly wrote about how, after a while, I came to recognize the personal qualities that my fiance' has that makes us a good match/fall in love, etc. because we talk to much and spent lots of time together, etc.

The letter of intent is exactly that...a letter of intent to marry within the 90 days on entry to the US. Nothing more. The instructions for the form say that engagement ring receipts may be submitted but it is not a requirement.

What other posts refer to is the evidence of having met within the required 2 year period prior to submitting the petition which is a requirement of the I-129F (fiance) petition to be eligible. What evidence you submit in this regard is dependant on your circumstances. Photos are secondary evidence so make sure you also supply primary evidence such as boarding passes, credit card receipts, etc. What you aim for is to submit evidence to assist the adjudicator in forming an image in the minds eye that you do satisfy this requirement. Use question 18 along with an extra sheet to detail the circumstances of meeting which established the relationship.....the evidence you supply should support the written statement.

All the best to you.
