CHICAGO — A senior Democratic official says President-elect Barack Obama has chosen Republican Congressman Ray LaHood of Illinois to be his transportation secretary.

The 63-year-old LaHood did not seek re-election this fall after 14 years in the House representing a district that includes Peoria. He is the second Republican that Obama has named to his Cabinet.

House colleagues respected LaHood for his grasp of issues and parliamentary details, but he sometimes angered Republican leaders by refusing to follow the party line. He was best known as a House appropriator, and has less experience in transportation issues than do some other contenders Obama reportedly considered

Ha, he looks like what's left over from Al Capone's gang, could have been chosen because he knows how to get a job done. Met many a PH.d, while brilliant in their line of endeavor, just could not organize people and spoke in such high detail and technical terms, nobody knew what the hell they were talking about. Having the ability to communicate is equally important. Bush's main criteria for selecting heads of agencies was how much they helped him with his campaign, that didn't work out either.

Not only appointing a leader is important, but monitoring his performance and canning the guy if necessary. What about putting that guy in charge of the USCIS?

Emilio T. Gonzalez, the incompetent head of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services–the agency that spends less than 6 minutes reviewing each request for green cards and citizenship–has resigned.

Gonzalez, as you’ll recall, is the guy who gave himself an award he created for “Outstanding American By Choice” (an award that illegally discriminates against Americans on the basis of national original because if you are a natural born citizen, you couldn’t receive it). Imagine that folks, Plain ole Americans being discriminated against! Whoo Hoo, what else is new?

He’s also the guy who sicced federal agents on his former Director of Security Michael Maxwell, for daring to speak out against lax scrutiny of aliens seeking entry to and citizenship in our country. Of course we dare not speak out against any laxity in regards to scrutiny with aliens. Is that word politically correct anymore? Seems I heard some did not like it.

And he’s the guy who fired USCIS contractor Sultan Farakhan for decrying the fact that he (and all USCIS employees at the time) as not allowed to check immigration applicants against terrorism databases. Well sure, didnt ya know we need lots of terroists here in the good ole U.S of A.! Good way to lose your job is to make any noise about it. Don’t ya know we don’t want to be accused of profiling?

Oh, and Gonzalez gave monetary bonuses to employees for speeding through (and approving) immigration applications.Well, kinda sounds like HMO’s to me, only instead of deny deny just ya, si, and yes yes, and you will get a bonus my little sheepies, Just don’t bah bah on the way out!"

Just our luck to have this guy in charge when we were applying for immigration, he can't even count saying over 3 million people applied for USC when the actual count was less than 600 thousand. And sure butchered up the forms that use to make sense before he got in. But it took a long time to get rid of him, thanks to the American board of immigration attorneys.
