I love this wedding thread. It's a year and a half since we got married but I still get excited about other people planning their day.

We got married in the UK - in the Lake District. In fact the only reason we did the CR1 visa instead of the K1 was so that I could get married in the UK with all my friends and family there.

The wedding was in the garden of a hotel over looking Windermere lake and we had a boat trip on the lake after the ceremony. I'd bought umbrellas for every guest in case of rain but people ended up using them as sunshades as it was so hot. (it had rained hard every day for the seven days leading up to the day, I'd been tearing my hair out!)

We had a 'theme' cake much to my mother's annoyance but skiing was something that brought us together in the first place so I had this cake made as a surprise for my husband. The woman that made it based the little figures on us - that's his hideous red and black checked jacket he wears to ski - which everyone at the wedding recognised and laughed at.

* awesome cake Isma!

Hi peeps, im back.. Ryan (hubby) just left yesterday after a couple of glorious weeks together here with me and family.. sob sob... we heard that our NVC case is completed, so really hope that i will get an interview date soon. These goodbyes at the airport and back to just chatting and calls is heartbreaking.. we are lucky enough to meet up every 4 months or so, but i dont think we can do this anymore... arrggghhhhh.... i miss my hubby.

NickD, have i said that me and hubby can wear our wedding outfits again? hehehe i must have said that in my earlier posts in this thread.. the trick is wear less accessories with it and not have elaborate hairstyle for dinner functions... ;)

P/s: Happy new year y'all... and happy planning of course.. hugsss

What a great cake! I love it!

I'm not having a traditional cake... maybe cupcakes but most likely chocolate boxes filled with fruit, jelly beans and other edable thingies.

Has anyone had any luck with Davids Bridal?

Here is the situation...there is no Davids Bridal in Canada, they will not ship to Canada, you cannot order online a dress if you do not have a US billing address. There are two gowns that I am looking at, one available online and one in the store. My future mother in law said she could help me out in both situations if needed as Davids Bridal is not too far from where she lives. Anyways, I have tried on different styles in other stores and the one I liked the best was the style that is the $499 gown available in stores only. I would get it without the train though. The stores here are ridiculous with markup, its hard to find a dress here under $1000, let alone under $500!!! I went to a consignment store and couldn't find anything decent for under $600!!! Oh how I wish there was a Davids Bridal in Canuckville!! I am not very busty on top and my torso is long so I am wondering if maybe the $99 gown with the ruched bust, might be better. I am getting panicky about spending an extra $400 dollars though!!

I am headed to the US in a few weeks...pending they let me through the POE, and there will be a DB in the area I am visiting with my fiance, pending we have time as I am helping him relocate maybe I can get him to take me to DB!!

If I do get the one that is available in stores I wonder if I would be able to call and order it over the phone? Then when it comes in, my future MIL go to pick it up? Next thing I am worried about is if she were to send it to me, would they charge customs fees, duty or taxes?

Any thoughts? Please HELP!!

Perhaps look at stores that aren't bride-specific. Here's a couple alternatives that have wedding gowns online:

Dillards (Dillards bridal gowns)

Target (Isaac Mirzrahi bridal collection)

JcPenny (JcPenny wedding dresses)

I've also come across some less expensive online wedding dress sites. These seem to have plenty of reviews around the web to look reputable. I spent a long time looking myself several months ago.

Wedding Dresses Online

Lily Wedding

Shop of Brides

I hope one of these will help you with your dilemma!

That is so fun!! I love that it really personalizes it to you - not just 'another' cake. We're still hunting around for cheesecake wedding cakes we like... as soon as Nick gets home (God I love saying that!) we'll go for the taste things. Unless of course I decide to just do it myself - which is how we're leaning - to save some money.

We love strawberry cheesecake so I'm thinking some bourbon soaked - chocolate dipped strawberries on top with a light chocolate drizzle over the whole cake would look nice... but we'll see. Nick tends to change his mind a lot ;)

Thanks Shan. I wanted something a little different.

Not too sure about the catherdral train though  , i'm not the most elegant on my feet and can imagine going ####### over ####### . Just hope they stay put! hehe

 I'm worried about that with mine too. We got my dress off ebay - and since I've been preggers ever since we got it, I haven't even tried it on yet. I think it's gonna be a bit long for me and I don't know about the time or cost of hemming it.... SOOOOO I might look for some 4 inch heels to wear with it. NOT! I'll go barefoot and do the irish jig down the isle!!!

Got my wedding dress pattern! AND more or less sorted the photographer, for free!!

WOW! We just looked at photographers - and daaaammnnn they are spendy!! I'm really bummed because I wanted professional pics done. I just don't know how we're gonna afford it. We'd have the money - but I want to put his AOS cost aside right away. That is one thing that is going to get done immediately :)

Next thing I am worried about is if she were to send it to me, would they charge customs fees, duty or taxes?

That's a good question - I wish I knew the answer for ya! I'm sure one of these fantastic women on this forum knows!

If an item is posted as a 'gift' with a low value there would be minimum taxes to pay.

Hi all thank you for sharing all your beautiful dresses, ideas and anxieties

We are planning to elope to a small B&b in Colorado and get married by a stream. We chose Colorado as we can marry ourselves and not have to negotiate our vows with an officiant. An added bonus is there will be snow so we're planning a 3 day honeymoon learning to snowboard.

I have chosen a very budget priced outfit from BHS http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3506/319184...06c6684.jpg?v=0 (looks a lot more elegant on the model than me but I like it) I also managed to get a gorgeous pair of white leather victorian style boots in the sale in office reduced from £80 to £18.

Charley has picked out a black titanium ring for himself and I picked this one for me http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=s...ing_id=19489530 - I would reccomend etsy if anyone hasn't come across it as they have some great crafted items at reasonable prices (some can be expensive but there are a lot of bargains also).

wish i could take the credit for getting all that put together for the price.

but it was a package deal that allowed us to have reception in the hotel we wanted and managed to nail them down on a few extra bits too! soo glad because i was ready to book the reception alone for $3000 then stumbled across the guys we're using and got all the extra bits thrown in!

Your cheesecake sounds lovely...keep a big piece to one side for me! :D

The dress is gorgeous.

And what an unusual ring, really pretty.

Eloping always sounded good to me, but Rob wanted a big(ish) wedding as he's never been married before...think he may be regretting that descision now!lol
