Muslims should avoid insulting people, lest provoke them to insult those beloved to us:

The Prophet (saws) said: “One of the major sins is a man insulting his parents.” It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, do people really insult their parents?” He said, “Yes, a man insults another man’s father so he insults his father, or he insults another man's mother so he insults his mother.” (Bukhari)

There's a way to get the word across without making generalized insulting remarks.

The evidence started piling when he ordered her to take it off. The rest is speculation of course.....lol

a corn-pone southern hick-abilly ex-football playing underpaid court officer saw a chance to be a racist jerk and took it.

i've yet to see any evidence that indicates any of that in bold is true.

i don't get it.

Hightened security is a BS argument when people's liberties are being quashed. Not to mention the fact that hijabis seem to have no problem getting into court rooms in Atlanta, where the shootings actually happened, according to my hijabi contacts in Atlanta.

And while it may not change it to discuss it here (much like almost every conversation on the internet), it is important to discuss the possibilities of what can happen, so that we're prepared and know our rights in case anything like this actually happens to us.

Discussion is healthy, but going off on a tangent is pointless and wasted energy. And, I'm not pointing any fingers.

From what I understand, the Koran says muslim men and women should "dress modestly". And also FWIU the intent is for muslims to be considered as people, not as sexual objects. That is, you dress modestly so people will take you seriously and not be sexually distracted. Another component of this is to not draw attention to yourself.

But, here in the United States, when a woman dresses as one would in an Arab or muslim country, it does exactly the opposite: it draws attention TO yourself. That's what this woman was doing: she was dressing that way to get everyone to LOOK AT ME. In other words, she's an attention #######.

There's no way I am exerting anymore energy from my precious fingers to remark to posts like these.

But I will say this. 1.2 billion and growing...Muslims are moving out of the minority. In another 30 years hijab will be the norm. No more need for "whoring" for attention.

Police to get training after head-scarf wearer's arrest

In an interview with CNN's Rusty Dornin, Valentine said a bailiff told her she could not enter with her head scarf.

"I didn't pose a threat to anybody," Valentine said. "So I got really angry. I told her that was discrimination, and I said it was b.s. -- and I used the full term of the word."

She tried to leave, but the bailiff demanded that she appear before the judge, and pulled on her arm, Valentine said.

"I was right near the door. I said, 'Don't touch me.' And so she got in front of me," Valentine said. "... She called for a guard or a police officer. He came and then he just was near me, and was like, 'You're going to do what you're told to do.'

"And then he grabbed my arm, and of course instinctively I pulled it away. So he's like grabbing me and bending my arm, like you see people who are resisting arrest, and trying to get really physical with me. ... Then I said, 'OK, OK,' and I let them put the handcuffs on me."

Valentine said she would have had no problem with allowing a female officer to check under her head scarf to make sure she did not pose any danger.

Valentine said that when she told the judge what had happened, he sentenced her to 10 days in jail for contempt of court.

You left out this part

In a news release, police said Valentine repeatedly used the expletive, told the bailiff that the judge was "racist," pointed her finger toward the officer, and "became loud enough that she attracted the attention of another officer."

The news release said an officer did tell Valentine she could not leave, "and placed her hand on Mrs. Valentine's wrist."

"Mrs. Valentine resisted the officer's efforts by stiffening her arm, but did not physically fight with the officer,"

the release said.

When Judge Keith Rollins was told of the incident, the news release said, he ordered her jailed for 10 days.

The police department's senior staff then investigated the incident and "determined that no fight took place" and "that Mrs. Valentine's actions were primarily verbal and her resistance passive," according to the release. The police chief told the judge of the department's findings and the judge rescinded the contempt order, the release said.

"Mrs. Valentine was not arrested because of her head scarf or any action related to the scarf," it said.

It's amazing how the hijab, or head scarf, causes so much strife, no matter what country you are in the world. In some countries, it's law, and you get arrested if you don't wear it. In others, you get in trouble if you do wear it. What the heck? I don't understand the controversy over a piece of fabric covering the hair. In the U.S., I believe people should have the right to wear what is right for them, especially if it has religious meaning. We are losing more and more rights in this country, some of them also rights to privacy. By denying Muslim women the right to wear the hijab, we are crumbling the rights of all religions in this country.

The difference between wearing a hijab which covers your head and wearing a shirt that covers your boobs is just that. If they asked a man to take off his hat to make sure hes not hiding anything in it, should be seen as asking a muslim to take off her hijab for 2 seconds to check if anything is hidden under it. You cant be too careful these days. I know not many weapons can be hidden in a hijab, but a small razor blade could, and certain drugs could, so i see where she was asked to take if off was not to be offending or insulting. And sometimes IMO, the "im not taking it off bc its my religious belief" is taken way too far. In court, or even in government buildings it is disrespectful to wear anything on your head, a hat, a scarf, a hoodie, a bandana...so yes, in court, she couldve taken off her hijab...shes in america now, and it wouldnt hurt to be respectful when its expected.

You could hide a razor blade or drugs in your bra too! So why not take off your shirt and bra and let them check there too! Oh come on it's just 2 seconds to make sure you don't have something in there... we have to be careful these days... Oh and yes, guys, we need to check your underwear too... so drop your drawers... you could be hiding something in there...

WHERE DOES THIS END??

Most women in this culture feel "exposed" when they are topless... same for Hijabi's who are told to take off their hijab. If you visited a place where women went topless would you immediately start going topless and expect to be harassed if you didn't?

I know of NO Government building in my state where you are required to be strip searched to enter. And none that disrespect hijabi's either... And whenever I've been searched at airports I'm always taken to a private room with a woman security agent, but I'm not required to remove ANYTHING to board the plane! So if it's safe enough to have a hijabi on a plane, I'm thinking it's safe enough ANYWHERE!

BTW, I believe this woman was born and raised in the USA, and may have never stepped foot outside of the USA so you're statement that she's "in America now" makes little to NO sense. And I know of NO ONE who believes that a religious headcovering is a sign of disrespect to any one! I've never heard a nun referred to as disrespectful for wearing a habit...

Where on EARTH is common sense and respect for beliefs and cultures different from one's own.... obviously not here amoung a group of people involved with people from different cultures and beliefs than their own... Who would have guessed...

:rofl: I was laughing when I read that part about "she's in America now"!!! Heloooooo......I wear hijab and my family has been in the United States since the 1800's. Even the media sometimes make idiotic comments like that assuming that all muslims are immigrants. Freakin' unreal.
