I just don't see the point in swearing at an officer...you aren't going to get anywhere with that kind of attitude! Hijabi or not.

oh you'll get somewhere, just not where you want to go :P

She walked into a courthouse with an attitude and got exactly what she derserved. Suppose it would have been different if it was a redneck wearing a basball cap telling the ballif to #### off when told to remove it??....dont think so.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

If he was wearing it for religious reasons, then I have no problem with a baseball cap. They could have patted her head down if they were worried that she was carrying an AK-47 underneath it. It was a BS excuse to use their power to demean this woman. If it were a redneck, then the judge and bailiff would have probably related well to him and let him go with a pat on the back.

And I never heard of someone sentenced to 10 days in jail for cursing at a bailiff.

She lost any religious consideration when she told the ballif to XXXX off, just like a Nun would have lost also.

Judges alone determine the conduct in their courtrooms....dress, demeanor and comportment. If you refuse to comply, you can be charged with civil contempt of court with no appeal. They have absolute power in this matter.

I think that he used that power a little too harshly on this poor lady.

This is exactly why I don't wear hijab. Any police officer, judge, etc can find the smallest reason to toss you in jail, make your life hell, or indirectly force you to take it off. It's not worth it for me, because I'd be one of those "hypocrites" going :ranting: at everyone

this article had nothing to do with the fact she is black or even stated whether or not where she was born or from.

I know what its like to be in a home where you dress head to toe nearly covered. Been there done that for most my young adult life, I also know that cursing to get your point across never does. And whether she was wearing hijab or not - anyone that curses in the courtroom would be arrested.

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOO She didn't curse in the courtroom! She couldn't GET INTO THE COURTROOM to curse!!!! And who said she cursed to get her point across??? It was reported that she used an expletive as she turned to leave the courthouse... AFTER BEING DENIED ENTRANCE!!!!

Tell her that harassment and discrimination don't happen to her because she's black... and I can PROMISE you that MANY would assume she was a foreigner because she choses to wear hijab. People tell me all the time that I "speak really good English" because I have on a hijab... Oh right, they didn't SAY I was a foreigner... so probably they thought I was born amoung the wolves and learned to speak English after being rescued!

May I ask why you stopped covering yourself from head to toe?

Where does it say she said anything at all TO THE BALIFF! Much less has anyone reported that she did anything more than say an EXPLETIVE as she turned to leave? Why is everyone concluding that she dropped the F bomb??? Maybe that expletive was "Sh*t".

And who says Judges are allowed to discriminate? And she wasn't IN FRONT OF A JUDGE, or even in his courtroom... She only ended up inside the courtroom when she was taken there in handcuffs!

We are a country of laws, and Judges are not above the law (outside of small town Georgia). And there should be nothing illegal about covering your hair for religious reasons.

Well, humtydumty some people actually have lives. But hanging out in cyberspace seems to be the extent of yours. The fact of the matter is, religious nutters have been cramming their religion in people's faces for centuries, often violently, without caring what others think. Then they cry wolf and/or scream bloody murder over the slightest little inconvenience placed upon them for a change. I've never heard of anyone even being allowed to wear a hat in a courthouse so why should exceptions be made in this instance? I don't think a person should be allowed to wear a headscarf to get a driver's license either for that matter, when one wouldn't be able to wear a mask or some other disguise that defeats the purpose of identification. The twit should have either removed the scarf or left. It's as simple as that. Cursing like a little ingrate did nothing for her cause and I hope she gets charged with contempt.

I see you brought up the Crusades and the Inquisition... and the Salem Witch Trials, all tragic and unbelievable examples of intolerance... but this woman is a MUSLIM, the religion of no compulsion.....

"Slightest Inconvenience"????? That's a strange way to describe being asked to compromise your religious values, for WHAT PURPOSE????

I guess you don't know the difference between wearing a hat and hijab... Let's see if I can explain, wearing a hat is (typically, with some exceptions) a personal preference, and wearing hijab is a religious obligation.

As for the driver's license comment.... in some states CHRISTIANS who object to being photographed for religious reasons are allowed to have NO PHOTO on their licenses. And last I checked a driver's license was to show that you were licensed to drive. If you can prove who you are when you are driving, then what difference does it make if your license has a photo or not? And if law enforcement can't tell who someone is unless they see their hair then shaving your head should invalidate your license and being bald should keep people from even GETTING a license!

What is this obsession you have with seeing HAIR? And you call this woman a "twit"??? Have mercy...

And again, she would have left IF SHE HAD NOT BEEN HANDCUFFED AND DRAGGED INTO THE COURTROOM.

Ingrate???? What Was she supposed to be GRATEFUL FOR??? Harassment, Discrimination, or are you thinking she should be grateful because she is living in the south and she's FREE????

She's already been charged with contempt so you got your wish...

Let's just remember that virtually every courthouse and almost every government building in the United States is on "orange alert" due to the potential for terrorist actions. The security staff are trained only to follow their orders. If removing a headpiece of any kind is requested by the authorities, we are expected to honor the request. The Patriot Act adopted after 9/11 took away many of our rights in favor of public safety. The prophet probably never envisioned a situation like this when the Muslim dress code was developed.
