Giving birth in the USA

Does anyone know if the child of someone who goes to the USA to give birth will automatically get the US Citizenship?

My mom was asking as she knows somebody who went to the USA exclusively to give birth so that the baby would be an American Citizen.

I thought this had changed, but don't know were to look

I always thought that were the case, I believe they refer to them as "Anchor babies" now.

No they haven't changed the rules... they keep talking about it though. So one day that door will be closed, but for now if your child is born in the US they will automatically be a US citizen. That doesn't give the parents any rights in the US though... but people still do it in the hopes that their children will have 'a better life' or more chances when they're older.

I dont think so . it also works both ways. if you have a baby in another country and one

of the parents is american that baby is a US citizen.

When Charles and I have kids i want them to have both citizenships, but they'll be born in USA, be half american and half brazilian by blood, still i want them to have brazilian citizenship so they can come to Brazil when they want and if in the future they want to live in Brazil, start their family in here they can chose to do so.

I don't agree with for example 2 brazilians on vacation in the States, she's pregnant and her kid happens to be born there, so just by getting off her womb in US ground the kid is american? Does that make any sense? The kids parents are brazilian, that live in Brazil, doesn't matter where the kid popped out he's brazilian, right? I don't think he should be consider american nor have any american rights. The same way around btw, if americans had babies in Brazil.

Not necessarily, if the american parent hasn't been present in the USA or any of its territories for a certain amount of time, this is not the case....

When I said that I didn't agree with this, I meant that I did not agree with people taking advantage of the fact that they can just fly to America have their baby, and voila, american passport straight away.... I don't know, I might be being narrowminded... Ah, anyway, I was just wondering....
