Well I just got back from the pediatricians office. She has told me what the doctor in Canada told me and what everyone else has told me. That even if he has "ADD" it is just above the line of normal behavior and she doesn't recommend further testing. She said if I wanted it, I could get it, but she suggested making the school pay for it if they want it that badly. She said that he is very well spoken, can name his favourite authors and is just your typical class clown. She also doesn't agree with medicating children unless they truly need it and she doesn't think my son is in need of medication.

I am relieved but at the same time, the schools are on their own little mission and it just means another hurdle because regardless of who I see and what I say, they won't stop until they've heard what they want to hear.

Thank God for good doctors. What the heck is up with people? Don't they know that little boys want to be out running and playing? Not cooped up in a fricking schoolroom listening to boring ####### with only 20 minutes to run off some steam. Sheesh.

A.D.D. and others supposed diseases like S.A.D, etc. are marketing ploys by pharmaceutical companies to sell drugs.

Think about it...look at how many "disorders" were on the official psychology list in the 60s and look now.

It is mind-boggling.

P.S. School is the domestication of the human spirit!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing ingenious ever came out of school.

Highly intelligent people usually do not finish university and make more money being entrepreneurs.

Do not worry about rambunctious children.

Encourage them!

My mother calls it a "self fulfilling prophecy"... that so many people have told Ethan that he could have ADD, mostly MIL and her mom, that Ethan began to act that out.

However I do believe that Ethan has a hard time focusing because he has more energy than the average child, and that doesn't mean ADHD, that just means that not every child is the same. My son is active, he loves to make people laugh, and he hates math and reading. Simple.

The doctor said: "He is eccentric, he isn't ADD and we don't want him to change now do we?"

Okay, me at little people's age:

When my mom would visit my teachers in elementary school to discuss reports cards etc.

I would be sitting there beside her.

Imagine an immigrant Greek woman with limited English asking my teacher what she can do to make me stop being so highly spirited.

The report card?

All As

The note at the bottom?

"___ is a great student. Talks too much in class."

All my mother would see was that last comment...sigh.

Oh and he's being tested for Diabetes, everyone in my family is a diabetic and the teacher wrote in her note to the doctor: "Ethan is constantly getting up to use the bathroom and get a drink of water and its disrupting my class."

The doctor saw that and asked Ethan if he was always thirsty and he said yes.

The doctor said that his sugars could be a reason for his moodiness and temper also. I can't believe I didn't think about that.

Yea. But we don't like to let them know that. :P

You know that trucker thread they had in OT - that was kind of interesting.

I have been thinking that a similar kind of question and answer thread with a hair dresser (yoooo hoooo missstacey) would be really interesting!
