Well its actually starting to become a big business---"holiday medical procedures" Was a big article in Time magazine not too long ago! One can goto India for heart surgery, receive world class service, and have a holiday prior (or after) and it is still far cheaper to have it in the USA! And some of these places will interact with ur regular Dr here in the USA!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I've watched tons of shite on tv though about how quite a FEW of those procedures in South America go HORRIBLY wrong and people do not get the proper post-op care. Lots of infections and deaths due to infection from surgery.

We have had friends that had LASIK in Columbia and the service they received was top notch! Like anything else, 1 has to research it

If I ever have major surgery again i'm taking a sharpie marker and marking the spot/appendage the Dr has to operate on.. :thumbs:

Yeah. There was one memorable occasion where I was lying on the gurney outside the OR:

Nurse (looking at chart): So you're getting xyz.

Me (looking confused): No. I'm getting zyx.

Nurse (looking at chart again): Oh. (walks off)

New nurse (looking at chart): Are you the one getting xyz?

Me (looking concerned): No. I am getting zyx.

Nurse (looking at chart again): Oh. Okay. (walks off)

Doctor: How are you doing?

Me: I'm a tad concerned. The nurses keep saying I am getting xyz.

Doctor: Oh. Oh, don't worry. They're just confused. (wanders off)

Needless to say, I was relieved to wake up in Recovery to discover I'd had zyx and not xyz.

Oh.. so I have this great story about my ex hubby... he had this fetish for painting his toe nails (he was as "manly" as he could be so I totally never got this) but before he had his left kidney removed the nurses were going down the check list you know as they are prepping you for surgery and they started with have any jewelery on (no), blah blah blah.. and got to fingernail polish and of course the nurses are hamming it up not thinking he actually would ever have it on, and he turned brigth red and said "umm.. yes actually my toes are painted".. you should have seen that nurses face :lol: It was priceless seeing the nurses take off his bright orange toe nail polish..

Shoulda known he wasn't a keeper... :bonk:

my brain is hurting tying to figure out which wireless router to get for our laptop that is arriving today..

If you guys were writing a procedure manual for your office (or as I like to call it the "what happens if E gets hit by a bus" manual).. what stuff would you make sure was in there?... I know it's specific to every individual office but just wanted to pick brains before I submit this puppy!!
