Wal Mart are awful on so many levels. From a personnel perspective, they have been one of the worlds worst companies to work for. They have spent enormous amounts of money to stop employees from forming unions. They are able to offer such low prices because of their scope and shear size. They browbeat their suppliers into submission and god forbid if they cut you out of the supply chain. When a new Wal Mart pops up in a new area, local business' die. They don't have the size nor the supply chain to compete. This is money that is taken out of the community and goes back to the corporate structure. But, by far, Walmart's most heinous crime is censorship. The CD's you buy at Walmart are censored, and the consumer is not notified or warned.

I don't understand why they aren't investigated for breaching antitrust laws, or at a minimum predatory business practices.

So, this morning before I got up I kept hearing the mother cat outside calling and calling. When I got up and went out to feed her and the former tom cat and her kitten - the three that are hanging around the back yard - the two adult cats show up but the kitten is no where to be seen. I search the bushes and around the area where the kitten has been the last few weeks and nothing. The mother cat keeps wandering around the back porch meowing for the kitten as well. Great, I think, something has happened to this kitten as well! I start looking to see if I can find a body or signs of what might have happened, but nothing. I volunteered this morning for a summer camp programme so I got ready in my period clothes (ala 1800!), loaded things in the car and just reluctant to leave, I took one more trip into the back yard. From the side yard I look and can't see anything, and then my eye catches the open drain that is in the back yard for all of the hill run off - the drain that is connected to the sewer. I go over and look in - and there looking back at me from the curve in the drain about 18" down are a pair of blue eyes in black fur. I reach and pull out the kitten - wet and sorry looking- but alive and alright! I take him over to the food dish and put him down, and Momma cat comes running and they touch noses. So, finally, I leave for my commitment and mamma cat and kitten are both washing kitten drying off its fur. My mind shudders to think what would have happened to the kitten if I didn't do that last look around and see the drain. I have since covered the drain and will work out something to keep it safe but also allow the water to run off. When I came home, the kitten was hungry again - and looked nicely fluffed dry.

When I read the beginning of that, my heart jumped into my throat. Phil and I want to come meet the kitten and maybe take him home with us.

Walmart is evil guys. There is tons of information out there for you to read up on! I know we're always trying to save a buck these days but it shouldn't be at the expense of the store employees and workers in China and other under developed nations. There is also a movie about it:

http://www.walmartmovie.com/

Seriously watch it! It will blow your mind.

Thanks fer the link.. I netflixed it :)

That would be wonderful. I am still working on socializing him - or her - hehehe - he/she is about 6 weeks old now - and he plays with his mother as well as the neutered tom cat who also hangs around the back porch. It is funny to see them wrestling - my heart has been in my mouth a few times thinking it might be too rough on the little guy, but he just jumps right back in for more! He is a big kitten for his age - must come from being a single - and I expect will end up with green eyes like his mother. He now comes out from hiding in his safe place when I come out because he knows I bring food and while he hisses at me when I move to him he stops when I pick him up and relaxes. We'll have to find a time for you to come out and meet him and see if he would be a good addition to your family (I think he would be, hehehe).

Kathryn, you are such a sweety. For the drain might I suggest maybe some kind of plexi-glass with holes drilled in that are big enough for water and small enough kittens dont get through it?

Thanks, Danu,

I am going to cover it with a piece of chicken wire secured by landscape pins all around. It did come with a drain cover but the drain cover doesn't let water into the drain and we end up with a lake that covers our side yard and part of the neighbour's yard. I've put that back on for now and will make the repairs tomorrow.

My husband is notorious for scaring me! He is always hiding around corners and stuff and jumping out at me. I thought he was out with the dog, so I didn't think he was home. Anyways, I was walking down our hall and into the kitchen and he jumps out and goes: "BOO!" and I turned around and instinct must have got the best of me and I screamed and bopped him in the nose!!!!

Poor guy! But thats what you get for scaring me! Oh man! I am laughing so hard I am crying!!

ha ha.. that's great.. at least he knows that you can take care of yourself should there ever be an intruder who tries to scare you :)

morning all!! Feeling more optimistic today.. perhaps a signed lease and a firm moving date and a full night of sleep can help a person destress.

I'm going camping this weekend

 He fell to the ground and said: "wow never doing that again" I was just like: "OMG I AM SO SORRRY!!"

Camping sounds fun! I don't know what I am doing this weekend... I guess on Friday it's out with Mike's friends in Philly for dinner, drinks and a show and then Sunday I know we're going to my inlaws for Fathers day.

Okay this is awful! We found an old box of BRAND NEW in the bag golf shirts at my work from a good brand and they were going to get thrown out anyways so they let the staff go through it first. Well, I took three, a yellow one, a baby blue one and a white one and brought them home and we decided they'd make a great gift for his dad because he loves golf.

So we didn't pay any money for it. But its the thought that counts! :P

Every single day I come in to work and the cleaning lady talks about a spider bite that happened to her three weeks ago. Granted, the bite was pretty bad, but every single day she shows me it, and talks about it. I mean she'll go on for a good 10-15 minutes. Then at the end she'll always say: "No bug is gonna get me!"

Yeaaa I think the bug got you, the way you go on about it.

Now...does this mean you found a box of brand new shirts in a box of golf shirts? I've read this about 10 times and I'm still trying to decipher what this means!:lol:

Sorry. I type from work so I do it quick and I do it fast and I usually end up screwing up somehow. :P

We found a box of brand new golf shirts - the box has been sitting there for about a year and is considered 'old' because the shirts are soo 'last season'. But they were still brand new, and I couldn't tell the difference in styles... a golf shirt is a golf shirt.
