Hey guys. I didn't make it in to work yesterday as we had some not so great weather. But then I'm finding out that tomorrow we are supposed to be having this huge snow storm and my commute to work is an hour and 10 minutes without any traffic or bad weather conditions period. I have heard of people sitting on I-80 West towards the Delaware Water Gap for 3-5 hours when the weather gets crappy during the evening commute. I have one more vacation day that I can take, but I think my boss would be pissed if I skipped out on work yet again tomorrow.

Oh what to do, what to do!

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Your work is an hour and 10 minutes away!! :o Forget the boss, you need a new job!

Good morning all, another nice day in Florida, bit damp outside while all the dew drops.

Agreed! Add that time up and figure out the amount of time you spend a year in traffic going to work in a year! Thats insane!

Yes it is long. A lot of people in my office actually live by me or even in Pennsulvannia. I will eventually like to get another state job closer to where I live, but for now I have to commute. My dad has commuted for the last 10 years from Kitchener to the Toronto area every day.

The thing is, I can make more money in East Jersey and it is cheaper to live in West Jersey..so essentially you are getting the best of both worlds. I start work very early and end early so I don't hit much of the traffic yet.

It's not ideal by any means, but it is the only affordable housing my husband and I could really find in our price range...and I obviously can't lose my job right now/quit it.

Understandable.

Its good you don't hit the traffic but if my calculations are correct you spend about 10-12 days a year commuting.

You should get a hybrid Amanda.

All in good time of course.

I really do understand. I have had commutes that were that long (by bus or train) and it wasn't really that awful at the time, as I remember. After a few years though it begins to get old

When we moved here, as we are free agents, we had decided we would wait to buy a house until Mike decided where he would work and that way he would have a short commute, vs the 20-30 min commute he had in Calgary.

Well he is working in Maitland - so his commute is about - yes - 20-30 minutes. If he decides he wants to stay on at this place we will move to Maitland in the new year.

As you know, we just needed to get out of that apartment and Lake Mary seemed good since that is all we really know here.

I'd love to get a hybrid, although I already have a Nissan Versa that gets amazing gas mileage.

However, we have to get a 4 wheel drive car soon because the storms can get bad out there and I practically live in the country. I see myself sliding a lot this winter.

Commutes can be difficult. But to be honest, I was living 15 miles away from my job as of last week, and there were days where it would take me 1.5 hrs to get home because of dead, stop traffic. New Jersey is a hard state to navigate and I wouldn't encourage any one to live up here. Trying to find a balance between affordable housing/nice people/lower taxes/close to work/etc. is so hard to find. :(

Holy moly Jill you don't waste any time sistah!

Oh no I don't!! hehe I would have actually sent it sooner but was waiting on a letter from Glen's employer for the I-864 and his parents to give us his 2005/2006 W2's.... So got it all photocopied yesterday and off it goes!! Hoping for AP approval so I can make it home for Easter :star:

JillA...you should see your AP and EAD in about 70 days. I received approvals for my EAD in 60 days and my AP in 72 days. Laura and I were lucky as the Sept AOS filers had a wonderful person keeping a chart of everyone who filed, when they filed, the dates for everything. You should take a peek at the AOS - Sept Filers. I think I even saw a thread started for Dec Filers too.

Way to go on getting it out quick!!!!

Thank you!! That's good to know!!

Hey Jill! We're December AOS filers as well! There is indeed a December filer thread with a spreadsheet that has been started, if you'd like to join us you're more than welcome!

Thanks ATeam, I will indeed join the Dec filer thread!!
