Finally found some archived activity near where I live. Aparently, there was a pothole near there. I searched some notoriously bad neighborhoods to see what they would have listed. Do they just post items that are too menial to report to the police or local government?

Yes exactly.. i think if there was gang violence on your street you wouldn't post it there, you'd call 911 :) but.. ya know..

Last night was Mel's first experience with an earthquake. She had laid down to take a 1 hour nap at about 7:30 p.m., and at about 8:30, the earthquake hit. It wasn't a real big one, only 5.0. But I was sitting at our big desk and had to hold her monitor so it didn't fall. I ran into the other room and she looks up at me and asks "Was that an earthquake, or did a truck hit our apartment?". She wasn't too frazzled, but Stewie (our chihuahua) certainly was.

Funny you mention that! A friend of mine is on vacation in LA right now and she was freaking out on facebook about feeling a giant earthquake... Doesn't sound to giant to me  I was disappointed I never felt an earthquake when I was in LA last February. I'd like to add that it rained everyday for the entire week! "Sunny California" my #######! :P

Haha...we were at home for that earthquake too. It wasn't my first, but I think it was my husband's first because as soon as the apartment started shaking (it actually moved back and forth,) he ran for the door.

I was like "Honey get back here!!! The last thing you want to do in an earthquake is run outside!"

I have to admit though, that's the biggest one I've experienced, even though it's actually classified as the smallest of the bigger earthquakes, only being a 5.0.

Ooh and on a side note, they changed their minds and made it a 4.7 sometime late last night <_<

So what are you supposed to do in an earthquake if you aren't supposed to run outside? My inclination would be to run outside away from falling buildings and trees as well - find someplace out in the open. Not right?

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I don't know if this is true, but I heard to stand in a doorway, because that is less likely to collapse... or maybe lie in a bathtub? Maybe that's for a hurricane, I dunno

that is what it started out as ..lol... there was one last summer that was 5. something.. that one scared the begeeezers out of me... our whole place shook for what seemed like an eternity... I tired calling my hubby but he didn't answer so I called my SIL and promptly started to cry when she answered

they say the doorway is a no-no because most doorways are not lode bearing doorways.. also going under a table is a no-no too... what I have heard is to crouch beside a big piece of furniture or if you are in your car to crouch beside your car... because if anything falls it will hit the bigger object first...

Well, I just had some sad news. The little beagle next door, Cleo, who I used to dog-sit and visit with during the day, was put to sleep today. They just found out she had diabetes and it had already affected her kidneys. The vet couldn't guarantee that she would be able to stabilize enough to get onto an insulin regime so they decided to put her down instead. I am so sorry, she was the sweetest little dog ever. I know if it were me, I would have tried, but a diabetic pet is a lot of work and responsibility - I used to have a diabetic cat - and I can understand that they didn't want to go there. Still, I will miss her a lot. RIP Cleo.

:( We have a beagle, oscar, so it's sad to hear of one having to be put down. RIP Cleo!

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Good morning and thanks for coffee Carla.

It is still raining here, hasn't stopped - so I guess that's almost 24 hours of rain now.

So we go out to the front carport for a min last night and a raccoon goes running by

It's interesting about what to do in a hurricane or tornado etc. Here they actually (they being the newspaper) print out a magazine type thing each year to tell you about just that. Guess I didn't read it very well because I can't remember, so I looked it up - Take refuge in a small interior room, closet, or hallway on the lowest level. Lie on the floor under a table or another sturdy object.

Anyway, it is LITERALLY in our backyard (the street that runs parallel to ours).. we could almost WALK our furniture over the fence to this new place.. tee hee..
