I just found out something amazing. My fiance informed me that in the US when you want to mail a letter you just put a stamp on it and put it in YOUR mailbox?! So when the mailman brings you mail, they take whatever you need to mail out?! That blows my mind. He thinks i'm crazy and that we MUST have it in Canada... We don't right? I haven't been going out and finding those large red Canada Post mailboxes like a sucker for no reason have I? :o

Yea we have that in Canada as long as you have a mail box.

It's more common in rural areas.

So we went to see the apt. tonite.. I'm so bummed... the guy who owns it is a Med Dr.. which is awesome.. likes to keep a quiet house (he lives on the 1st floor).. anyway, the 3rd fl apt. we looked at has these tiny windy stairs going up to the apt.. which is an issue, how do you get furniture up there? He suggested hoisting up the balcony  yeah.. maybe not. AND it has a tiny tiny tiny little stove (think 1/2 stove).. it does have a dishwasher (from 1980), and the space is AMAZING... HUGE and totally awesome layout (the bathroom has a separate dressing area complete with mirrors, hooks & closet).. BUT... and this is the HUGE but.. *sigh.. someone's been smoking in the apt.. I asked the Dr. if he knew if the tenants had been smoking in the apt, and he just looked at me and said .. uh.. i don't THINK so.. I told him.. um.. I can tell within seconds of being in a place, and someone has been smoking..

so it's out.. mostly because I had to get my inhaler after we left.. cause the smoke got to me.

*sigh.. it was totally a sweet little place though.. :(

No way! I should try it and see if it works! I live in the city so maybe that's why I've never heard of it...

That sucks! But there are things you can do to get the smell out. My dad smokes so I'm constantly fighting with the smoke smell myself, and I have asthma too. They say if you give a room a fresh coat of paint you can really eliminate a lot of the odor... maybe ask the landlord if he'd let you paint up there! As long as you agree not to paint it some crazy colors I don't see him being against it. If there are carpets bring in a good steam cleaner! Air wick also makes a special room spray to combat the smell of smoke, it works great. Its a little bit of work but nothing a really good cleaning and a little effort won't fix.

I've actually tried that.. and been in a new apt. that was freshly painted and I could still smell it.. I think I'm hyper sensitive to it, so not really willing to go there.. it's all woodwork in the apt, so it's probably everywhere, and the work it would take to get the smell out isn't worth it to me (esp. considering the stairway).. it's okay.. i've grieved tonite.. we'll find something I'm sure.. :)

Good morning everyone. We got back early this morning from our NC trip. It's good to be home. :luv: I'm leaving for Canada in a few days so I have a quick turnaround, with lots to do.

Good morning Krikit! Glad you made it back safely from NC. Hope you had a good time. ;) I always travel with my own piwwow so that I can feel at home when I'm away...and have a good sleep! You're leaving again so soon? Wow! How lovely! How long are you away this time?

You sure do get around girl! :)

I always bring my own pillow too! I also brought a foamy to put on top of the bed. The flipping thing is as hard as a rock, as are the pillows. Well... you know... NC is NC. I'm glad to be home. Hubby had a successful speaking engagement, so it was really nice. We had an enjoyable drive home yesterday. Pretty much a straight run except for a bit of crazy weather in SC..... a torrential downpour. Other than that, we find a couple of new places to eat which were really great. AND I found a new cheese shop on one of the exits close to my inlaws! I am SO excited about going there and trying it out. Hopefully, I'm not disappointed.

Yes, leaving again on Friday. Meeting my Mum and my daughter and a couple of her close friends in Buffalo for the weekend. Shannon and I have appointments at three different wedding dress shops while the others do a bit of cross-border shopping, then we'll head back to Canada. We also have more wedding dress shopping in Toronto so, hopefully, we find something. I'm staying for two weeks so I've got a lot of visiting scheduled, also. Just hope I have time to fit it all in!

You're a city girl, aren't you :) We lived just outside town and that's the main way to get a letter mailed withou having to truck into the PO.

I guess this is a little more old fashioned then most of us are used to - although if you have a look at the big super mailboxes they have in subdivisions (in Canada as well) - they have a slot for outgoing letters as well.

EWWW! If I see that once more I'm going to hurl. That looks incredibly disgusting!!

1400-1500 for a 2 bedroom apartment Emancipation? WOW! :o That's unbelievable

Thats about how much we pay here. It sucks.

that's more than my monthly mortgage payment for a 1800 sq foot house on 4 acres here (3 bed, 3 bath, 2 living rooms, 2 car garage).

Good morning everyone! Coffee's on!

We worked out what we would be paying for a mortgage this past weekend with our down payment and it is less than what we pay in rent. Only with rent you're not getting anything back... so we're looking into buying.

Welcome back krikit!!

Thanks for the coffee Carla :)

I have only ever lived in Calgary, in Canada and if you put a letter in the mail box there I am sure it would sit there for a mightly long time until someone opened the box and it blewwwww away.

Here in Lake Mary we can mail in the mailbox and it is grand. Especially with netflix :) The postal service here is good.

Even though we are just renting here, I bought an aluminium blind for the front window yesterday, the sun shines in there in the afternoon, on to my comp screen :o I ordered it from Penneys - I hope it fits in to the existing blind hardware on the window.

I bet it makes a godawful sound coming out of the can.

I don't think I am going to be able to eat chicken for a while....*gags*(where is that smiley emotion for feeling sick) lol.

I became vegetarian cold turkey (pardon the pun, LOL) at age 14, after biting into a chicken burger and a bloody, pus-filled vein! MMMM yummy! Haven't eaten meat since that day and never will again.

I don't think I could ever be a vegetarian...... They just don't taste as good :innocent:
