Ooo I like clothes sales SO much!

I found this bamboo checkers and chess board at wegmans the other day for 1.97 so I bought it. I brought it home and Mike asked me why I picked it up. HELLO!? It is 1.97... I am sure we can find someone to give it to for a birthday or Christmas.

Wow! That's a great deal! I would have bought one too. In fact, someone would have had to restrain me from buying more than one.

 Why are you depressed my lovely krikit?

E-That sucks!!!! Can't believe he's raising the rent in a recession. Who does that?

I went to Home Depot last night to get a price on installing carpet and wood flooring in our whole house. The price was GREAT and they are doing a $159.00 whole house carpet installation sale right now. So I can get the whole house carpeted (except our dining room and kitchen which will be wood) for 159 bucks.

We had this company, Empire Today, come in and tell us to that to get our basement carpeted alone was going to be $1,800.00 with a decent carpet. With Home Depot our basement was priced at about $300.00 to do the whole thing. WHAT a difference.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Like anything, sometimes you get what you pay for. They may use a poorer quality underlay, padding, carpet, etc! Lot of bad reviews about Empire. They are known to quote you a low estimate (not in ur case, lol) then when it comes to the actual payment, they nickel and dime you to death. Lot of not so good stories about home depot too, lol But of course, people are more likely to post something if they have received bad service, vice good.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

had a room done about a month ago, home depot wanted about $1200 to do it, me and another guy put carpet in for less than $600 - and it was a better carpet. room is 15.5' x 13.5' - home depot wanted to sell me two 12' rolls of carpet, 13.5' long, which would have wasted about 1/3 of the carpet i had to buy. jackie from the mena forum advised me to find a place selling 15' rolls of carpet and get one 15.5' long, which i did - and saved money.

good morning canada peeps.

Because I've put on weight since I moved to the US and buying clothes just emphasizes it. :(

Sounds like a great deal on the carpet, Amanda. In Canada HD quoted me waaaay too much money to carpet a room in my house so I went to a store called End of the Role and had it bought and installed for tons and tons cheaper. Don't know if they have any stores like that here in the US, though. I would imagine they do.

I think we got our tile from"end of the roll" and they were ther cheapest. We went to about 5 or 6 other stores and compared the exact same product, and they were the best.

Cost us about $750 to get the master bedroom recarpeted before we moved in last Oct - from Lowes. The installation price (ours was about $159 too) is awesome especially is you're getting more then 1 room done - that's where the savings come in. I wish we'd been able to afford having the entire upstairs done, but only our room needed it. With the price the way it was, we choose average quality carpet and selected the best underpad which makes a big diference. Lowes hires a local contractor who came and measured. He did a decent job and was clean abiout it and took away the old stuff

I belive I read on another "home" forum that one can get away with a lesser quality carpet, but NEVER skimp on the under pad. If I have my way, when we buy our house, it will have wood/tile all throughout.

Me too, I am huge hardwood fan, I really don't like carpet. Have it in our apt, but it's bad for people with allergies and it's dirtier.... hardwood is so much easier to clean! Even if it's the fake hardwood you know what I mean it doesn't have to be the expensive stuff.

So the M&J show is on and they are talking about eating/losing weight.

They are talking about salads and they have 3 on display - and she said they had something like 1700 calories each in these salads and people are eating these salads expecting to lose weight - etc.

Well these salads on display - one of them has at least 5 strips of bacon on it and maybe 7 largish pieces of chicken - and they have things like nuts etc. Who would not know that they are going to contain a bunch of calories??
