It's Tmix's great-great-great grandfather. (I dunno if that's enough greats in there but it's something like that!) The one who founded Calgary! He was from the States and fought in the Civil war if I remember correctly and then moved up to Canada. I think that's it!

You can go that far back?

Errr... errr I don't know about that. But perhaps she'll come here soon and sit us around the ol' campfire and tell us the whole story. :P

He is in fact trying to convince all of Canada that she has NO power so he can have her all to himself.

 This thread is taking a turn for the better...

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Well boys and girls :)

In fact my Mother and my Father are/were U.S. citizens as well (no one knew this until I documented my citizenship in 2007). We always kind of thought my Mom could probably claim citizenship as her Mother was American.

I guess it is a bit misleading - as all the 'greats' mentioned are Canadians with no American ties really.

And yes - you can go back that far if all the criteria is met along the way. Both my parents were born before 1934 - because of this the guidelines for them were quite simple - they had to have 1 citizen parent each and the citizen parent had to have resided in the U.S. before their birth. (Simple but it still means going back quite a ways because my Father's parents were both born in Canada).

It's funny though, my Grandmother was an American born person - but it was harder to prove my Mom's citizenship than my Father's.

My Great Grandparents on the paternal side were both Americans from Wisconsin.

The thing is, if you have any American relatives in your direct family tree - it is absolutely worth investigating whether or not you have a claim to U.S. citizenship.

Cool story and thanks for sharing Tmix.

If my mother would have been so nice as to put the name of my father on my bc I could have had citizenship and a status card. But she didn't. BOO MOM!

Kidding. Her circumstances are understandable.

I think everyone is going to start investigating their family tree after your post tmix.

My Aunt is into all the family tree stuff she traced way back and found lots of cool facts we didnt know, its very intersting to find out alot of it. But no U.S Citizenship in our family. She did find out my great grandparents on my fathers side came directly from France, she thought it was interesting that they both came from France but didnt meet there but in Canada. Anyways my Aunt always looks for that kind of link to family since she was adopted she has more of a need then others i think.

my CDN side of the family were in the country for years (having come from Scotland). No bones in those closets..

My Mum's side though is British (Mum became a citizen in '75 the year before I was born).. so my older bros have more rights in British immigration than I.. I can go over there for 3 years cause my grandparents were British Citizens though..

An American in my family tree woulda made this WHOLE thing a little easier!!
