Aww, isn't that lovely?..... A 50th wedding anniversary. :luv: I sometimes feel a tug at my heart knowing I'll never reach that milestone. On the anniversary of my first marriage, I have a little sentimental moment as I count the years which have gone by. I'll reach the 50th on that one by myself. I guess I'm being a little more maudlin, recently, as I make preparations with my daughter on her upcoming marriage. There is a missing piece with her father gone, and the loss has become more noticeable. Okay.... pulling myself together again. :( Mind if I have some Amaretto with that coffee, Carla?

Awe Krikit.. I hear you gal... I'm sure that the upcoming wedding does have everyone in your family thinking about the loss.. it is like that with all major life events.. I know I still do 14 yrs after my father's death (and his death was in some way a relief)... so I can only imagine when the memories and life experience was a positive one..

Woke up feeling crummy today, but there is FAR too much work to do to not go to work today :(

I have mentally checked out at work. I am leaving for Canada tomorrow morning and I am too excited to do any of the work that is on my desk. I just found out that ad I did for S. Jersey is going into a couple of newspapers and its being used as a direct mail advert. So I am working on changing the size today of those today to get them out by 11:00.

I am hoping that this will lead to a career change. I'll keep hoping but I doubt it will. :P

A lot of sickness, recently, in the Canada Forum, don't you think? I haven't been feeling entirely well, myself, for the past couple of days. It hasn't felled me or anything, but it's just enough to make me kind of..... bleh, I guess. Which makes me laugh because there is no "reward" in saying you're just..... bleh. At least if you were full-on sick you could justify lying down and whimpering. OMG. I can't believe I'm thinking that I would rather be deathly ill than mildly ill. I need to get a grip.

That's nice news Sprailenes! What career change would you want if you could have it?

No not a copyright.

But that would be cool to have that symbol after my name.

Now that would be interesting!

So I just had this conversation with my Husband in chat:

"anyway, maybe we should move to hawaii"

him: "hawaii"

"yeah, the island place"

him: "yeah - island - volcanoes - no roads - little - uh huh - and why would we be wanting to move there"?

"no roads lol - oh after the volcano"?

him: "to get awayyyy"

"lol - can jump in the ocean and swim - then when the lava gets cooled we can walk back to the island on it"

him: "not if its a tsunamieeeee"

I'd love to be a copy writer, too Nev. I applied to so many copy writing and editing jobs in NYC and did not get an interview for one. I h ad some good experience, too.

Krikit- I have been very ill lately as well. I just went to the doctors again for my sinuses. The doc ordered a CT Scan for me and some allergy testing. He says to have seasonal allergies for over 2 months isn't really seasonal any more. He also put me on my THIRD antibiotics for the third time in 10 weeks.

I just can't seem to get rid of this #######. And to think, I never had a sinus cold or infection in my life until I moved here....

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Well its called a dream for a reason, because it is: just that. :P

The lady from South Jersey Magazine seemed more interested in my graphic design experience and she told me to give her a call... I am not a designer... so I don't think I'll be giving her a call.

I mean I do some design, but it's not really what I love to do, that's my husbands thing. But we make a good team with his freelance stuff because he designs it and I do the copy. It works out. I'd like to devote all of my time to it with him, but Mike is happy with his job. :P

Right now I'm doing all of the direct mail here and writing most of the letters to members and non members. Whenever something creative comes up they ask me to do it. I am going to talk to my boss about changing my title because I'd like to put this experience on my resume. Right now I'm an administrative assistant but I am doing the marketing and advertising, which I love but I want to make sure that it's known with my next employer. I don't care if they don't give me a raise, I just want a different title so my resume looks better. ;)

Oh you should call Ms SJ Magazine! Opportunity may be knocking at your door there! While you may not be all that interested in Graphic Design - working at a magazine could bring you closer to copy editing (just like working where you are now brought you closer to it - in a way!)

Yea but what if it is graphic design and I get way in over my head?

That's what I am afraid of. I know it would be a foot in the door, but it's really not what I do. I could call her back and she could talk about a graphic design job and I go in and sink to the bottom. I'd be screwed.

You could call and inquire about the job and then if it is all graphic design you do have the opportunity to say no. It might be something totally different though. It couldn't hurt to ask about it, could it? I got a pretty great quote in my email this morning that completely applies here I think:

"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it come true."
